This team is not elite but rather it is just a injury-prone team trying to make it out of the second round and its window for going beyond that will probably last only one or two more years. So with this mindset, wouldn't make sense to trade Kidd and Carter while they have some good value and get in return pieces for the future along with expiring contracts? Yes, yes, I know Carter is most likely going to be used as a poster child for the move to Brooklyn, but our attendence is still terrible here in jersey and by the time the team gets to the new arena in Brooklyn(2-4 years?) they probably wont be that good with Kidd most likely out of gas and Vince will most likely be classified as an aging star(and i wouldnt bank all our hopes in landing LeBron when his contract is up).
So instead of keeping Kidd and Carter, we could trade them for pieces for the team that will arrive in Brooklyn. And I dont include Jefferson because he will only be 29 or 30 by the time we move. We have two good pieces for the future in Marcus and Sean(and if you dont like Marcus, we can try to pry a better pg prospect from the kidd or carter trades), along with a very good small forward in RJ. Marcus, Sean, and RJ to start off, along with other pieces via the draft and the trades.
Rebuilding is not as bad as people make it out to be. It is only bad when you have idiots running the show(example-Hawks through the years; Knicks). Right now we have an average team with so-so future. Why not try to rebuild/retool for the future and make a team that will be competitive as soon as they move to Brooklyn? I think some would be reluctant because they would like Kidd and Carter to retire as Nets, but I personally care little if they retire as Nets or not.

Thoughts on rebuilding even though it will most likely not happen?

Trade Kidd to GS for Ellis and others. Carter to LA for Thorton and expiring. Collins to Orlando for Dwight and future first.

Houston is the key if we want to trade Kidd... They would benefit the most from his style of play. But do they have enough value to trade?

I'm all for bringing Ellis here and Houston is watching The Nets they are over packed at PG poistion and feel someone like kidd will help them.

The Lakers have pieces, but I like the Hawks' pieces more (although they're in the east)

Trade Kidd for Odom, Kwame, and Farmar.

The reality is that there isnt that many teams that would be interested in Jkidd or VC that we could match up with...

Jkidd's possible destinations...

Miami...for Jason Williams, Ricky Davis, Daquen Cook and a 1st...two expiring contracts, a solid young guard and a draft pick.

Kidd and Allen to LA for Kwame, Ronny Turiaf, Mihm, Trevor Ariza and Jordan Farmar

or strangely enough Indian for Jermaine Oneal...they play better without O'neal anyway.

As for Carter I see the only realistic team being Chicago for Thabo Sefolosha, Ben Gordon, Joahkim Noah and Joe Smith.

Dont know if those trades would work well for us or not but for the most part they are realistic.

all we need from the deals of kidd and carter are picks, young prospects, and expiring contracts. I dont care if the media rips us if the deall seemed one-sided for the other team, as long as we get what we need, i could give two shits what people say.

capspace, ppl. We need to trade our huge contracts and throw money at young pieces like Turiaf and such. Not every trade needs to net you a good player. Someone proposed this yesterday, VC to Miami for Dorrell Wright, Ricky Davis and some other pieces. that would be a hellofa trade for NJ.

Rebuilding sucks.

The Celtics were trying to trade Paul Pierce but couldn't get anything back that they liked, so they reversed course and went for broke.

The truth is that the Nets don't have much to build around for the future, and if they trade Kidd they will need several high draft picks and a lot of luck to become a title contender again.

A better idea is to do what they SHOULD HAVE DONE YEARS AGO and push their chips into the center of the table.

Maybe Memphis would listen to an RJ/Sean Williams offer for Gasol since they are the only players on the Nets with high stock right now. Who knows?

I doubt it matters because Rod Thorn has been a complete pussy and never made the moves that would have put the Nets over the top. It's probably too late now, but it's still worth one last REAL try.

Been saying it for a while, Rod Thorn is an overrated GM. Outside of the Kidd, Vinceand RJ trades, he hasnt done anything particualrly well. He overpaid a scrub in Collins to 6 mil a year!! Think about that, Collins for averaging less then a pt. a game and about two reb. a game is getting6 mil a YEAR! He also overpaid RJ by 30 mil. There goes the money saved on K-Mart. Then he doesnt trade Vince last year and basically bids against himself and overpays him. He should have lowballed him. Acutally, he should have traded him last year when he was an expiring contract. Dont even get started on his drafting. Krstic, marcus and Sean were good picks but as long as Granger is in the league, Wright will NEVER be the right pick. David Lee. Worst of all, free agent signings. Fuhget about it..

Find one post where I said I wanted to blow up the team.

I have been saying that Thorn is a wuss with no sense of urgency since before you were posting your daily "Good Night My Friends" threads.

Our leading scorer and best post defender, both being the future of this team for Gasol?

If you thought our defense was bad now...

Plus I doubt Gasol makes up for it on the offensive end.

Gasol is quite the baby anyways. Wouldn't we have to find a way to bring in metrosexual Navarro as well?
