being in my 70's now, it's kind of crazy how expensive being 'connected' is, and what it means in accessories
way back when, the only connection I had was a landline phone...rotary dial of course. Since I didn't know anybody and was an introvert anyway, I never called long distance so the basic phone line was 10-12 dollars a month. Gas was 25.9 by the way
cable TV came along but there really wasn't a lot I wanted to see and nothing I needed to see. When I finally sprung for cable I think it was around 25-30 dollars a month. Cell phones were as big as a Buick and a better club than a phone. My first computer had a 60MB hard drive. Simple times
but now?
I have a desktop PC; a laptop; 2 tablets; a cell phone; and an e-reader. I'm swamped by USB cables, connections, chargers, power banks, and adapters. I used to take week long camping trips with no devices at all. Trust my survival to my wits and plenty of beer in case of a breakdown. But now, neither my wife or I drive to the store without a cell hone. If we go camping, we take two cell phones, a pair of GMRS radios, a Garmin GPS with emergency contacts, our Triple-A cards and lots of paranoia
