Oregon to make a run at.....

I would crap my pants if it happened.

There's no reason why not. With Phil Knight's money, Oregon is a big-time program.

yeah. Thats the only thing that could get Izzo here, is (a lot) more money.

I think I read today he makes 3 million a year, with a 1 million dollar bonus each year he stays, so basically 4 a year. Really, why not, for Oregon. They have the money to do it, and would be a much better name to bring in then some mentioned. Steve Alford? Come on. Izzo would be a huge splash for the team, I imagine he would immediately turn them around.

Yea but the basketball coach making almost double of what the football coach would make???

when the time comes.. Chip will be getting paid much more than he does now. But until then, he hasnt gotten his team to win 6 pac 10 titles in 12 years. (the closest thing I could think of to final 4's)

Exactly. Izzo has a history, and deserves what he would get paid. Chip Kelly is a first year head coach. If he can continue putting together good seasons, then he will get his raise.

Tom Izzo

Title: Head coach
College: Michigan State
Sport: Basketball
Team record: 364–145 (.715)
Born: January 30, 1955 (age 55)
Place of birth: Iron Mountain, Michigan, USA

Izzo didn't issue a denial of interest; that's a start.

We'll see how high the bidding goes. We'll see if Michigan A&M matches; I'm sure Izzo will give them the opportunity to do so.

MSP guys had an interesting theory on this Izzo thing this morning. Going after Izzo but not getting him could make the Oregon job look a little more attractive to the second-tier guys they actually have a shot at, if the athletic department plays it right. "The job that almost pulled Izzo away from MSU" might have a little more caché than just "head coach at Nike-U" does.

I take back my original statement if Oregon is truly willing to offer Izzo the richest coaching contract in the NCAA's. Yet I still have a hard time seeing him leave Michigan St for Oregon.

agreed.. the only thing I would think (if even remotely possible) that could pull him away, would be huge amounts of money. Other than that he would have no reason to leave IMO.

Maybe so, but consider the following:

1) The UO campus is quite nice and the ocean beaches & snow skiing are each less than 90 minutes away, so it's a great place to have a family.

2) A new state of the art arena like none other in the country.

3) A team with talented sophmores & juniors that can be molded into a darn good team.- in other words, we have the talent.

4) Considering 1-3 above, it would be a terrific challange with obvious rewards.

Do I think he'll do it? Nope. But I also wouldn't be surprised if he did.

The UP really isnt Michigan tho, its southern Canada. And do you want a Canuck running your basketball team?

Oregon is a good job, there is no doubt about it. I just don't think it's Izzo good.
