Clearly it was planned for him to erupt. There was no ramp up. He decided if Barney Frank was going to be Barney Frank he was going to tear him a new one. Of course, when is Rep. Frank not himself?

O'Reilly may be right about both the GSEs and Frank's role in the debacle, but I question how spontaneous his rage was.

You think Frank could bear some responsibility? I know everyone wants to blame Bush and the republicans and they have some blame for sure but Franks is probably the biggest cause of the mess we are in IMO. He knows it and goes nuts if anyone even hints or suggests he had a hand in the cause of the problem. Why do people keep electing these tools and jerks like Frank and I don't care if they are democrats or republicans.

Well we could get into semantics debating the difference between "some" and "a lot," but frankly neither term is very objective. On principle though I think Mr. Frank may have said some irresponsible things regarding the health of the sub-prime mortgage industry, but it is flat out absurd to assume that people who invest large sums of money rely on the comments of members of Congress as investment advice. This shit storm in the mortgage industry has been brewing for years and there's a heaping steaming turd pile of blame to be spread around to EVERYONE involved.

Frank has been the chair of the house banking committee, if not the ranking member. Every time anyone tried to put some sort of oversight on Fannie and Freddie, Frank and Democrats blocked it. You can find Frank quoted numerous times saying that to regulate the two would mean less loans for the very people who are now being foreclosed on.

If the storm has been brewing in the mortgage industry for years, HE is to blame for it more than anyone else.

Don't blame Bush, he proposed to regulate the two in 2003, blocked by Frank. Frank blocked similar attempts in 2005 and 2006, too.

O'Reilly's rage is not misplaced.

He's been in the back pocket of the GSE's while it has been one of his jobs to oversee them. It's been the fox guarding the hen house. He spearheaded the opposition to reforming the GSEs back in 2003 and has let them run hog wild since 2006. He pushed for them to take on sub prime loans, the very loans that poisoned the well of mortgage origination.

And don't kid yourself, it's the GSEs and the bad loans they took on are the primary reason for the credit crisis we find ourselves in right now.
