Pulled that off the White House Correspondents dinner after Seth Meyers made a joke about bin Laden hiding out on CSPAN. Gotta love that "I know something you don't know..." smirk on his face.

Congratulations to the president, our military leaders, the special forces that went and got him, and to the friends and families of those murdered on 9/11. What are we still doing in Afghanistan at this point? Bring the troops home!

In my best Roy Tidwell impression........."Show me the Body!!!!!!!"

While I'm all for bringing my buddies home (some of whom are on their 5th year out of 9 in Afghanistan!), I think our leadership thinks there's an aspect of "legitimacy" that demands that we clean up part of the mess we caused (and though it's definitely strong under this administration, it's been there since Truman). We may see something like in Iraq, where all the "combat" troops come home but there's a large cadre of instructors, engineers, security forces, etc. that stick around to bring some aspect of "normalcy" (whatever the heck that means in that neck of the world) to the people there. It's a PR fight we've been allowing ourselves to get dragged into for almost 60 years...

If we left today, we'd be leaving Afghanistan in much better shape than when we started out there. I mean, there's nowhere to go but up, from the bottom.

We simply have no strategic interests there anymore.

Anyone else think that Charlie Sheen got the kill shot?

Dead at 54, literally 10 years beyond the life expectancy of the average Afghan male.

If you back-click on "Properties", the article is stamped as being created today (5/2/11). Seems like a hoax.

Um go to ANY webpage previously created and it will say it was created today through "properties"

His knees were toast, too.

I think he was more like 64.

I just heard that the intel that finally led our troops to OBL came from a bin Laden courier being held at GITMO. :MARIS61:

Good thing Obama came to his senses and didn't close it down, as he promised he would do.

But seriously, that webpage with the picture from a year ago, if thats true....then fuuuuu...someones lying

It's ridiculous to give any Administration credit for this. Credit our intelligence agencies and the military. They're the badasses.

So - the economy is not the administration fault - it's the financial institutes and your rants about it in the last year were just in jest?

This is our country and our administration for good and for bad - and it was the same when Bush was in power and before when Clinton was.

Kind of weird place to hide:
When first built, the compound was secluded and reachable by only a dirt road, the officials said. In recent years, more residences built up around it, but it remained by far the largest and most heavily secured property in the area, they said.
The mission ordered Friday by Obama encountered outer walls up to 18 feet tall topped with barbed wire, with two security gates and a series of internal walls that sectioned off different portions of the compound, the senior administration officials said. The main structure was a three-story building with few windows facing the outside of the compound, and a third-floor terrace had a seven-foot privacy wall, they said.
Months of intelligence work determined that the compound was custom-built to hide a high-value terrorism suspect, almost certainly bin Laden. The officials noted there was no telephone or internet service at the dwelling, which was valued at more than $1 million, and its occupants burned their trash rather than leave it out for collection as other area residents did.
...
Noting that the courier and his brother had no discernible source of wealth to live at such a property, intelligence analysts concluded the compound was "custom-built to hide someone of extraordinary significance," the official said, adding: "Everything was consistent with what experts thought Osama bin Laden's compound would look like."

If I were bin Laden, the last place I'd want to hide is a place that sounds like it'd stick out like a sore thumb from satellite photos. *shrug* I guess he knew what he was doing to last as long as he did.

I wonder if all this was timed:

Questioned for a long time about birth certificate. Finally releases long form and make all those who questioned his birth look like idiots.

Then he releases information that Osama is dead. What credible person would want to step into this one and question if Osama was really dead (Trump doesn't count as credible).

Musharraf: Bin Laden mission violated Pakistan

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf on Monday accused the U.S. of violating his country’s sovereignty by sending in special forces to kill Osama bin Laden.

“American troops coming across the border and taking action in one of our towns, that is Abbottabad, is not acceptable to the people of Pakistan. It is a violation of our sovereignty,” Mr. Musharraf told CNN-IBN, an Indian news channel.

He added that it would have been “far better if Pakistani Special Services Group had operated and conducted the mission. To that extent, the modality of handling it and executing the operation is not correct.”

Uh huh... I'm sure that would have been far better.
