I'm not sure I'd call it a rumor, per se, but this caught my eye:

http://basketball.realgm.com/src_wi...s_could_package_collison_with_pejas_expiring/

Teams looking for a quality starting point guard could be calling the Hornets about Darren Collison.

The Hornets are expected to be cautious until they are certain about Paul’s health, but one NBA source said it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the team try to package Collison with Peja Stojakovic’s expiring contract next season in a possible trade.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future,” Collison said. “I’m hearing this and that, but for the most part, I’m not even worried about it. I can’t. I’m too young in my career to be worried about that right now.”

But it wouyld be a really hard trade for the Blazers to get done if they wanted to dump peja as part of it. The Blazers would have to trade Joel, Miller and Rudy or something like that. Joel they would want to save money. Miller, I have no idea if they would be interested in a PG that will be unhappy on the bench, but would absolutly come behind Paul.

Peja is over 13 mil. I have no idea how to get that done unless another team with cap room got involved, and if they did and took on Peja, they would have to get something pretty great for that burden.

Peja makes $15M next year, his last on his contract. We're probably the only team which really needs a shooting SF like Peja, and which can afford him. If we went after him and Collison, I don't expect much competition. Might be very cheap.

Okay, now I tried Przybilla and Webster and the salaries don't match. It won't work.

They'd obviously would want value in return.

Something that Webster and Przybilla don't have much of.

Start with Bayless or Rudy and go from there.

I don't think they expect much to dump a $15M contract. That's why I said the trade might be cheap. The positive of Collison is included to get rid of the negative, the big contract. They wouldn't require much more to do it.

The big contract that just so happens to be expiring.

I think New Orleans would rather include Posey's contract, which has an extra year left on it. They would probably be interested in Przbilla's contract that would have only one year and maybe covered partially by insurance. However, Joel's contract is a little big so even adding a small contract like Rudy's makes too much money on our side to match up.

One trade that works moneywise is Rudy, Bayless and Webster for Collison and Posey. Collison was actually known in college for his defense; if that has transferred over into the NBA, I would do that trade. I don't know if New Orleans would. If Portland thinks Collison is good enough that he is our point guard of the future, then I'd be willing to throw in a draft pick also.

The other way to do it is if they exercise a team option on Songalia and add him to the trade; then we can include Joel in there but that seems kind of complicated and how much money do they save if they have to sign a guy that they don't need to.

The hornets offense is completely different then ours... who is to say that he will be doing anything even remotely close to what he is doing on the hornets if he was on the blazerrs?

True. They are more of an uptempo team compared to the Blazers.

Pace:

Hornets: 92.8 (15th)

Blazers: 87.9 (30th)
