OT: Artest wants to be traded

Ron Artest hopes to to be traded before the Feb. 24th deadline, according to a source.

Artest's agent David Bauman declined comment.

Artest played just 5.5 seconds of the fourth quarter and overtime in Tuesday's game against Houston.

Another item of concern for Artest is the limit to what he is allowed to do offensively. Artest is almost always the fourth or fifth option when it comes to scoring.

Artest is also weary of being blamed for the struggles of Lakers.

I liked him, but with that salary and his obvious decline, he's a bad gamble. The Lakers are almost definitely stuck with him.

The good is already fading, IMO...he's no longer a great defender, merely a solid one. The bad is getting worse and the crazy seems unpredictable (a common trait in crazy).

I was all about trying to get him on a one or two year deal. At the time Batum was uncertain, Roy was an All-Star, Oden was projected to come back and kick ass. He seemed like the perfect fit for a team of choir boys that needed one piece to push them into being contenders.

Some guys should never be handed a 5 year contract. Artest is the poster child for that rule.

I really don't see what Artest has supposedly done this time. A few years ago I would have said sure, Ron Artest is a headcase. But I see this as more of Artest not being a fit for their system. Artest can thrive in certain systems. He is always going to be a player that is confident and believes he deserves playing time and touches because of that confidence. He is obviously not happy because he is a 5th option there. It's not like he went out promoting a dog fight or something. Not a great fit for the triangle? Great welcome to the club. Most players aren't. That is why it has been successful in only a handful of scenarios.

If Artest can't stay happy winning a title a title while playing for Phil Jackson, I'd say his time in the NBA as a productive player are about done.

Let's give Roy at least a small chance to play without burying him. Kobe Bryant said last month that he is basically bone-on-bone, and Chris Paul has the same condition. I'm not willing to take a dump on Roy before it is a given that he is worthless as a player.

I'm generally of the same opinion, but you'd have to figure some team would be willing to take a chance on him now. If he proves himself to be worthless, we're basically stuck with him....for the length of his contract.
