My Avatar is the most attractive, by far!

For the record - I did not demand anything before - I just offered my opinion that it makes the site less friendly for us with little kids running around.

But, the FF extension solves whatever problem I have had as far as I am concerned.

speaking of this not being a family/work kinda' place. Is there an age requirement to join this site?

FWIW, it is our intent to provide the best service and experience for you guys while at the same time trying to keep the site safe for work.
.

I don't know how hard it would be for you guys to build in a selective avy/sig turnoff switch, but if possible, that would rock.

Personally, I have a job where I often have hours at a time with nothing to do but surf the internet, and so I have to turn off all. It sure would be nice to see the avy's, but I have asked people in the past to no avail. I really don't care for myself, just because it is not appropriate at work.

By the way, what are the rules? I know I can say FUCK on this site, can I post nudity? What does this site allow/not allow?

Some of us like to have a computer downstairs where the kids might be running. It seems like a bummer that going on a basketball site - which should be kid friendly - is hard to do until after they go to sleep.

But, thankfully, the Adblock extension suggested here works - so, quite frankly, I no longer care.

I completely understand what you are saying, but I was just pointing out this is obviously not a site that you would want to visit in that situation. They allow use of words that wouldn't be allowed on a family site as well as some pics that wouldn't be allowed on a family site. This is a adultish site so it's not one you'd want to visit if you have kids around or if that's a problem at work. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that's the way it should be, that's just the way it is.

Little kids are not able to read - and quite franky, even my 7 years old will not stick her nose in there to read what I am reading - but the pictures are very visible from across the room.

Nothing is perfect - but the adult-theme avatars are not really required for the purpose of the site, imho. As I said - I found a fantastic solution with AdBlock - just pointing the obvious.

FWIW, it is our intent to provide the best service and experience for you guys while at the same time trying to keep the site safe for work.

To this end, we've asked people to mark stuff unsafe for work as such so people know better than to click on the .1% of our threads that have pictures big enough to see from across the room.

The avatars are something of an issue, we agree. It's being discussed among the staff right now and we'll figure out a fair and reasoned policy.

I'm not so sure that surfing a sports site (or any entertainment type site) is truly safe for work. I'd be kinda pissed if my employees were wasting hours a day not helping the company go. So maybe it's not such a big deal about the language - someone has to be right up to your screen to read the print, no? Speak up if you feel I'm wrong about this.

Stay tuned.

Nothing could tank this site quicker than PC avatar rules. It should be obvious to anyone with children that this is not a site designed for them. Very few of the posts here are meant for children to read, and pretty much nobody here wants their input.

Blazers.com has that site if your kiddies need one.

As for your boss seeing your screen, I hope he does.

Anyone using this site at work SHOULD get in trouble. They'd be fired if they were my employee. I am puzzled how some posters can brag about doing it without feeling like a thief and a parasite. They're a huge drag on the economy and if they're dishonest at work they're probably dishonest the rest of the time.

Get your own PC, your own internet provider, and use it on your own time.

This site is meant for recreation, and it's huge advantage and attraction over BBF where many of us came from is the lack of censorship. My avatar is quite tame by choice, but were I told it had to be work/kid safe I'd probably find a better board to frequent.

I will add I've never seen anything print or picture-wise on this board that I would have ever shielded my kids from at any age.

This place is PG-13 at it's raciest moments.

Given that you manage to ignore many of Sergio's mistakes when watching games - it is clear that your brain is wired to ignore many bad images. If only all of us could be so lucky... :drumroll:

No nudity, please. The hot chicks/bodacious babes kinds of threads should be safe enough if you don't open them at work, and there's like 2 or 3 out those out of hundreds of thousands of threads.

As I wrote before, we figure that someone has to be right up to your screen to read a post, but they can see FUCK in big letters on some big graphic image across the room (that'd be edited out).

The adblocker is the ideal (what difference does it make if it's selective in the vb3 software or your browser extension?)

I agree with you for once. However, there is a line we try to walk where we're almost exclusively a sports site and not a porn site.

;)

What is wrong with pornographic sports? I would pay to see me some of that.

Rip City Rollers anyone?

Heh, I don't know what job you do, but not EVERY job requires 100% attention all the time. I'm a video editor and when I'm done with a video I have to sit and wait for it to render (ie. the computer to process it). In that time I enjoy just surfing the net. Sure, I could probably be tidying up my workspace or something else productive but my boss couldn't care less if I'm doing a little net surfing while my videos are computing away cause he knows I work my ass off to get them done on a deadline.

But go ahead and throw around your blanket statements... I'm sure I'm the only one who has a job like this and the other 99.999% of people looking at this site at work are just lazy parasites dragging the economy down.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand, like I originally suggested, it's pretty easy to block them if you're using firefox, but I agree that a simple way to block certain people's avatars on the site would be perfect as a user by user thing. All browsers can do it, and you no longer have to install a plugin (not that it's that big of a deal.)

Uh, some people's job is done solely on the internet, and have you ever, ever, ever, ever heard the concept of a break or lunch?
get a clue!

Also, the double standard is sickening. A piece of poop gets taken down but I see a vagina ( a lot of camel toe) and male ass right in my face is really not what I want to see when I am searching for blazers stuff. This is just not the place to post that kind of stuff.

It is very small minded of you to think that there aren't different types of jobs out there and that many of us aren't perfectly able to surf during downtime. I work in cell biology lab and most of my days are spent running experiments that often have very long periods between start and finish where I literally have nothing to do for hours. I am not stealing and am not a thief or parasite. Last thursday/friday I ran an experiment with 18 hours of time points that meant that I had to be present the whole time. Including set up and cell harvesting I was at work for 22 hours. So piss off.

I own my own business and don't have kids - so the avatars don't affect me currently. But when I do have kids, assuming things stay the same, I will be off to another site. I won't want to go, but I won't want my kids to see some of these avatars, either. I can see where the parents in this thread are coming from.

You could turn off the avatars and stay? It's just a couple of mouse clicks in the UserCP, and your kids would never have the misfortune of seeing an avatar.

That's true...I forgot you can just turn them off. Less fun that way, but not the end of the world.

ooo... God forbid your children see a butt in a bikini! I can't even imagine the sort of emotional and psychological damage that will inflict.

Some of us old fashion types think that the constant use of sex and related sexual imagery is introducing sex to children who are too young to know how to handle it and is a big reason why so many teen girls are getting pregnant and so many STDs are being spread.

It's important to talk to your kids about sex at a resonably young age so they understand it. It is not (IMO) a good idea to subject them to the temptation and the ideas that sex is something to be taken lightly and is without consequences as so much of our media and people in general seem to do. But this is a topic for the OT forum.

I agree with Webster's Dictionary; you can't generalize. On my job I have certain projects with deadlines. Some days I put in extra time and work through lunch because I'm swamped. Other days my workload is light. As long as everything is done correctly and on time, no one worries about how I organize my time. Nearly all my work is on the computer so I am not using any additional electricity.

I was asked via PM to remove my avatar. I said I would if the men showing semi nude women do the same. I still would in that case. I'd be just as happy to go back to posting pics of my cakes.

But you can't have two sets of rules - well, you can, but it's grossly unjust.

Way to rise over the immaturity you condemn... :devilwink:
