I know some would think I'm crazy but I'd put John Stockton 1b to Oscar Robinson. Kenny Smith summed it up the best - Stockton wasn't a pure PG, he was a PG who took the absolute best opportunities for himself and teammates. He was a good on-ball defender. Some consider him a dirty defender but I like that. The toughest 6'0" PG ever.

I think they underrated Payton myself. But then, offense always has gotten more press than defense. It's also really hard to compare eras.

Very true.

Was Oscar really a PG? What about Walt Frazier and Jerry West? The difference between the guard positions wasn't as clearly defined back then. (with Cousy being an obvious exception)

Mugsy Bogues and Mookie Blaylock. Easily my two favorite names in NBA history.

Oh oh oh, and Spud Webb.

Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Oscar Robinson, Isiah Thomas, Kevin Johnson, Jason Kidd, Steve Nash, Tim Hardaway, Gary Payton. Other than maybe the top three, pick the order you want to put them. The late 80's and early 90's had some very good points.

Who was the better Point Guard?

A. Terry Porter

B. Rod Strickland

Rod Strickland was the better pure point guard IMO. But the better overall player was Terry. Therefore I give him the nod.

John Stockton isn't a pure PG?

He's the definition of a pure PG. The best to ever play the game.

6 rings as Chicago's PG (on offense).

Then he went to Houston and played SF and was pretty average.

Then he went to Portland where he eventually beat out Mighty Mouse for the PG position and Portland's record with him at PG was outstanding.

Stockton was unreal with the pick and roll. Everyone knew exactly what he was going to do but he did it anyway. I wonder how CP3 will stack up to the greats when it's all said and done...He's definitely going to be in the conversation for top 3-5 ever.
