I think S2 is about to turn the corner in popularity because the former best Blazers forum has just turned into a gulag. I'm sorry but I remember a time when Blazersedge was easily the coolest Blazers site. It started to go down hill for awhile when Ben first came on and started knocking Oden and boosting Durant but Ben actually got better.

Sadly, Dave started to lose his edge and really come down hard on posters for the littlest things such as going off topic even slightly and responding to rudeness with rudeness. I'm sure I will still read Blazersedge but it's become WAYYYY to Nanny-State for me so I'm coming here to post my thoughts on the team. I expect there will be a wave of refugees like me soon due to the recent Stern-like locking down of a thread criticizing the new extreme moderation and favoritism shown there.

Any other Blazersedge refugees in the house?

I still like the content at BE, but comments are better here (not necessarily because we're all smarter or anything, but the forum format does favor more in depth responses). The best thing? swearing is not only allowed, it's encouraged!* Welcome to S2.

This forum became extemely popular a while back when those idiots over at basketball forums did the same thing.

I never really "got" blazersedge. too much info, too much writing. seems good for news and shit since they have twitter accounts but their analysis is too fucking boring.
 
I have never liked Blazers Edge or Dave. When I brought that up at the "previous" forum, oh boy did I get flamed...

funny how a bunch of sites are all going haywire lately and ailienating their regular's to the point of leaving. Blazers-Edge, O-Live, and BBF.. wonder what the crap is going on.
 
I never could get into the BEdge comments section.. just so damn unorganized. The content they have is really good, but everything else... no thank you.
 
Blazers Edge is a blog that allows comments, this is an open forum; I don't really see how the two are comparable ... but welcome here all the same.

Welcome to everyone here. I don't read BlazersEdge (unless someone here links to it), let alone leave comments, but it is always unfortunate when a good community gets broken up.

Except, of course, if it brings smart Blazers fans here. :)

nobody is getting alienated at BEdge. people are overreacting because dave made some regular users mods so they could help with spammy posts/comments in the fanposts. somehow people think that he is turning into Hitler lol.

and to respond to your original point, I think it has to do with the bandwagons filling up and now there are just too many people to control.

I think because there are so many that post comments there and they have the fan posts, that it functions as a combination blog and forum rolled into one. They have a large "community".

I read the blog pretty often. I agree that many of the blog posts are extremely lengthy. Nerd squared. But, eh, if you don't want that much detail, just skip it. I wade through the comments from time to time, but I find it kinda hard to read, and there are often soooo many comments it is just too much.

A party at a friends house is fun with 50 people. Getting a little hectic with 100. A disaster with 500. Some things don't scale well.

I am not "bothered" by Blazers Edge, I just don't post there because I don't like that format. The same way I never liked the O-Live format. The vBulletin board format is the best to me. So much easier to read and navigate and so much faster and responsive. I hate slow shit.

Pretty much my stance as well.

I should point, however, that I am not a fan of Diarrhea either... :devilwink:

Blazers Edge is awesome. Basically it's like having two really good writers cover the Blazers, plus you get your own forum to post things on the side bar. If you like statiscal anaylses (sp?), that's the place to go. Then there is a giant OT forum called the Junk Drawer, which is my haven :biglaugh:


Ugh the O Live thing was just a giant clusterfuck by whoever was in charge of the forums.

Dave and Ben run a blog and they do a pretty in depth job of analyzing and breaking things down. Ben is credentialed and covers the games, Dave is a lutheran minister by day and lives in Idaho (but grew up and lived in Portland for most of his life I gather).

Frankly, I think it's better coverage and more in depth and insightful than anything you'll read from the Oregonian.

It's a nice place with a lot of good people. Like any site, it has its warts. Moderation was long overdue there, so there's a bit of playing catch-up right now. The new mods are a good group of folks.

As a few others noted, it depends on whether you like both the site writing, and the conversational style of the threads. For example, you can't edit a post to correct errors after the fact, and they've said they have no plans to change that.

In reality, it's not mutually exclusive. Lots of folks post both there and here (among other places).
