I tend to like Dave's writting much more then Ben's, but that is a matter of personal opinion. That and Ben seems to have a problem with Storm Large which makes no sense to me at all.

Not that I agree with all of what they say, but at least they give it a great deal of thought. Certainly, they are more reasonable then I am when it comes to the Blazers.

I have no experience with Blazer's Edge as a place to post...I think it's likely the best blog about the Blazers in existence. They write quite reasoned and interesting pieces.

And what in the hell are you talking about? People voiced their opinions, Dave responded, then he let them respond to his comments, and then closed the topic because it was only going to go downhill from there...
Hey Cloudy,

Well for one thing I had a popular poster compare me to David Duke with no consequences even when I specifically emailed Dave about it. Yet, I was warned that I would be banned for going off topic when another poster went off topic and was extremely inflammatory towards other posters. I responded to their saying other people were uniformed by saying that he was in fact uninformed and ignorant of history and that his little straw man arguments lacked depth. I couldn't believe it as it was like I said he was a fucking idiot or something. I was going to respond to a number of posts on the "I Hate Blazersedge" thread and it was suddenly locked. I felt like there was plenty more that could be said. Plus Dave said off topic posts not about basketball didn't belong in the sidebar and would be deleted. He further stated that no "critical of the new policy(s)" posts would be allowed and to keep criticisms behind closed doors by emailing him. That struck me as extremely lame and Stern-esque by which I mean it compares closely to not allowing public criticism of refs.

I've been kind of sick of Blazersedge for a while now, to be honest. Just my personal opinion, but frankly I prefer more latitude in conversation. For instance, if someone says something inane like conspiracies don't exist (referring to refs and conspiracies at large), I feel like I should be able to respond that they are wrong as there is in fact a legal definition of conspiracy - conspiracy to commit fraud etc. - and a lengthy bit of history that shows that conspiracies of elites can and do happen (Julius Caesar's assassination, the mafia, assassinations of popes by cardinals etc.). Not to mention the Donaghy scandal which directly involves a criminal conspiracy to alter game results and point shave. To get threatened with a ban over that is asinine and when I email him as requested about it and he doesn't respond in over a week but instead institutes hardcore insta-ban rules, I look for greener pastures with a more open dialogue. I will still go to BE for news but probably won't post much there.

Yes, I didn't put that in my post above, which was an oversight. I just kinda assume all the posters here already know about Blazers Edge.

There is a reason I check out Blazer's Edge regularly, despite not liking the forums and comments all that much - the best TrailBlazer's blog out there. Lots of good articles. Good links to other blogs, stories, articles about all things Blazers. Good stats explorations. Interviews.

"Uninformed", for whatever reason, is a no-no word over there.

All off topic comments/posts are contained in the Junk Drawer, that's why it is there.

Fair enough that you are tired of BEdge.

This was before the "Uniformed" rule took effect. And what about not sanctioning the poster who compared me to David Duke? Just because they are extremely popular? This same poster said he wanted to punch a poster in the mouth and several other shocking things. I never received a reply even though I responded via email rather then posting about it. it was the double standard I found to be especially egregious.

Post edit:

I forgot to respond to the Junk Drawer suggestion. I went off topic due to the absurd statement a very rude poster made in a main board thread. That was that there was no such thing as a ref conspiracy because conspiracies don't exist or a slight variation of that.

Maybe Sonya Sotomayor was that poster, which would just be naturally overlooked.

I already like this board better. I may not agree with your assessment (haven't been keeping up on the Sotomayor thing as I've been keeping my eye on the ball: the economy and the bond market), but I like that you can make it.

who was the poster? perhaps he was saying it jest/sarcastically?

Dave has slowly been getting more full of himself (I could think of no better or descriptive terminology sorry) in the last year and a half or so. It's been a long process and isn't really noticeable unless you look over a the period of work but it's like what Henry Abbott did once he went to ESPN. It is very unfortunate. Then there was that very odd and awkward fatty front page post a while ago. I enjoyed talking to a couple people over there but not enough to consistently comment.

Ive noticed that too, but from an outside perspective. The few times Ive gone to the site, or heard him interviewed on radio/tv, I noticed that the more he got recognition the less impressed I was with his "knowledge".

It was like seeing someone who really wasn't all that impressive with his knowledge, and finding out they're getting all sorts of publicity for some strange reason. In a way he's like Joe the plumber. Minus the cool hairdo.

It's possible he was being sarcastic. Regardless, when you say that David Duke would be proud in response to someone's criticism of a Blazer you are saying an avowed anti-semite, racist, sexist former Grand Dragon of the Ku Klux Klan is proud of your post that's pretty harsh. My wife and son are of a group that David Duke would like to see wiped off the face of the earth. I find it to be far harsher for instance then saying someone is ignorant of history and their comments lack depth. Also, the poster sincerely wanted to punch another poster in the mouth and made it clear they were not kidding. I won't say who it is as it's bad enough I've said as much as I've said about why I'm frustrated with Dave's moderation.

To be fair, I did initially compare Blazers Edge to being like a Gulag so I see your point. Gulag I would argue is a commonly used over the top phrase to describe restrictive rules and a punishment mentality, where as David Duke is alive and denies the holocaust and spreads violent racist propaganda in the here and now. The thing that really bothers me is that I asked the poster to apologize and they didn't. I spoke with Dave about it saying I was offended and he doesn't bother to respond but proceeds to threaten me with banning for a far lesser offense.

So I will leave it at that. I want to go in and post about Basketball and relate it to whatever analogy I want, historical and otherwise.

We appreciate you being here. We're probably 180 from BE because we don't have some superstar individual poster that the site's all about, rather we're about the posters themselves. To that end, our staff is here to help where possible and otherwise stay out of peoples' way. You might check our rules link at the top of the page and get a feel for it.

Conversation goes where it goes.

And we don't particularly encourage swearing though it's allowed. It's not something we want to have to crack down on otherwise great posters about, and something people naturally do.

Thanks for the response Denny I will read that more closely hope I didn't step on toes already :)

No, you haven't stepped on any toes that I've seen, and not even close.

How do you insert all the cool emoticons? NM I will read the FAQ now that I've reread the rules.

Smilies button on the editor. It's not in the quick reply editor at the bottom of pages.

You can choose to use the advanced editor from your UserCP. It may be the default for everyone...

There's a "Go Advanced" button below the quick reply editor that switches to the deluxe one.

So wait, the proposal for the HCP wing got nixed?

funny how a bunch of sites are all going haywire lately and ailienating their regular's to the point of leaving. Blazers-Edge, O-Live, and BBF.. wonder what the crap is going on.

BBF was simply a case of the political ideology of a new mod leading to irrational and biased editing/deleting of posts. Said mod then called in reinforcements, who subsequently panicked, and people left for this site.

O-Live and B-Edge, however, have Blazer press credentials, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was "recommended" to both places that they need to clean it up in order to keep their access.

Or, maybe not. :dunno:

Not true. The moderator wasn't new, and he wasn't deleting/editing posts. He got sick of all the sniping going on in the political threads and moved them all, en masse, to the site's political forum and unilaterally banned political threads in the Blazers OT forum.

A rash, incorrect move to be sure, but not one based on any political ideology other than "I'm sick of moderating political threads."

False. He targeted thread by posters on the "right", and some of those posters ended up being banned. Plus, said poster had recently been named a mod, regardless of if he had done that job before on the site. Anyhow, perception is reality.

Wrong, all political threads were moved. Not just the ones started by conservative posters.

Those who were banned were not banned by him. He left the site after moving the threads. The bannings were done by the CM who came in after to try to handle the situation.

Speak for yourself brother! I run this joint! "Who's house.....................HCP's house!!!!!!!!"

And I thought we were supposed to vote if any new people can join or not! Send this rookie home!

Not to be mean, but BE attracts a very odd group of posters.

The last time I went there, they were running a poll - and roughly 3/4 of the respondents had voted to keep the current group of Blazer players together, even if it meant never winning a title!

There are "fans", there are "nuthuggers", and then there is "lethal attraction!"

I think S2 is about to turn the corner in popularity because the former best Blazers forum has just turned into a gulag. I'm sorry but I remember a time when Blazersedge was easily the coolest Blazers site. It started to go down hill for awhile when Ben first came on and started knocking Oden and boosting Durant but Ben actually got better.

Sadly, Dave started to lose his edge and really come down hard on posters for the littlest things such as going off topic even slightly and responding to rudeness with rudeness. I'm sure I will still read Blazersedge but it's become WAYYYY to Nanny-State for me so I'm coming here to post my thoughts on the team. I expect there will be a wave of refugees like me soon due to the recent Stern-like locking down of a thread criticizing the new extreme moderation and favoritism shown there.

Any other Blazersedge refugees in the house?

I remember what Dave did to EnglandDan, who is among the best Blazer posters on the web, period. At that point, I washed my hands of BlazersEdge.

Oh yeah I remember EnglandDan he rocked what happened there? I also don't understand why Cloudydays so vigorously defended a poster and when I explained my reasoning disappeared without even so much as a Big Lebowski quote "That's like...just your opinion Man!"

I hear ya. that was just really odd. BE has been rubbing me the wrong way for awhile. Regardless, I love the new digs here and appreciate the openess of this new forum. Very cool indeed. :)
