They overpaid... He might live up to that kinda cake.
IMO it's the same mistake the Blazers made with Randolph. They should have waited, offered him a QO and then let the market establish his value. They could have given him the same contract this summer.

Basically the Lakers are giving a guy 14.5 million a year based on potential For his career he's averaged 7 and 5... Yes I know he came out of HS and yes he definitely showed good promise last season, until he missed 47 games.
It might be the way thigns go in the NBA but it doesn't change the fact that they could have had him cheaper this upcoming summer.

He got 13 million or so in the 1st year of his extension. A max contract offer is just under 14mil for Bynum.doubtful. if he stays healthy someone would likely have made a crazy 4-5 year guaranteed offer and they'd be forced to match.
Oh man! Funny shit. I thought people skewed the number when they say 13/10 for last year (last 15 games 17/11/3blk) but to go to 7/5...thanks for the laugh
OK so he's played 15 good games? So he has earned 3.8mill for each good game he played.
Ok show me where his Career Stats aren't 7 and 5? I did acknowledge that he came straight from HS, but apparently that doesn't automatically indicate to you that his numbers would be lower initially, I said he showed promise until he got hurt. He averaged 17 and 11 for the last third of the games he played in last year which means he must have averaged lower than 13 and 10 in the other 32 games he played in. Probably in the neighborhood of 10 and 9 or so. That screams max contract.wow...keep going, your logic is flawless

I also said he might deserve that money. I personally just have a problem witht eh tactic of giving a guy near max when he has only showed promise.

Sorry DaRizzle I respect ya man, but similar things have been said about many big men who get (near)max deals, and then people complain when they don't live up to the money.
oh and rizz, im on my buds computer, the cable guy should be coming later today.
and i thought the sig bet was bynum>oden or oden>bynum.
good deal for the lakers, in that they are probably saving money off what he would have commanded this offseason.
on the other hand... i DO have reservations about his motivation. he all of the sudden became a semi-force, in his extension year. i would not be at all surprised to see him plateau for the next few years, and then have a MONSTER year in his next contract year.
