Wha? his upper body looks exactly like Kelly Clarkson

Did you really just go with a "all black people look the same to me" post in a thread about racism?

Well you know one does look more like the other than any look like me.

That reminds me of a fellow that work at the Lab where I last worked. We were about the same height but my belt buckle was lower than the bottom of his pockets.

Black people look black, its true

Magic Johnson is a piece of shit, also true

I mean if there's one thing I hate more than the Lakers, its the fucking dodgers

The only Clippers giving any effort are Redick, Turkoglu and Griffin, and Blake is only giving 50%. What gives?

Matt barnes looks like he is half invested in this game as well

It would be a tragedy if the players threw the game to get back at Sterling. They should play for each other and themselves.

There are a few posters who are lawyers, or at least claim to be. Stevenson, for example (although I'm sure he actually is a lawyer).
I know another attorney who posts here. I'm not going to 'out' him though. ;)

My point was that part of my love of free speech is to defend all speech, no matter how much I disagree with it.
maxiep <hearts> the ACLU? I wouldn't have guessed. ;)

In thinking about it, what would you all do if Paul Allen said something like that? I think I would have to give up my season tickets at a minimum and work on a petition to have PA sell the team. I love this team so much, it would kill me.

Bumper sticker I'd like to see:

I you love your freedom, thank a lawyer.

I see your point. However, another part of me would think, "The better we play, the more money he makes. Fuck this guy." I'd mail it in, admit it and then demand a trade.

They should have just all fouled out in the 1st quarter and got 2 techs apiece

It will be interesting to see what happens. Like you said grab some pop corn and watch the show.

I do think that this is different than your examples, if a Clippers player sues because he feels the team is a now a hostile work environment I don't see the league arguing against it.

Thing is, how was it any different BEFORE this came out? Everyone knew he was a racist and a general piece of shit before this happened. A player trying to get out of his contract NOW because it's a hostile work environment would be like someone signing up for 2 years of the army, and then trying to get out of it when he's going to be sent to fight in a war because it's not safe. It was the same shitty work environment with a douchebag of an owner before hand. If they didn't think that was the case, they had their head in the sand, or were fine with it because he paid them more.

From Baron Davis:
That's the way it is...He is honest about what he believes in..Been going on for a long time, Hats off 2 the Team.. 4 playin above it all.

He knew. He had no issue with leaving GS to take the racist asshole's money though. If players want to do something about it, do what they do to get away from small markets. Demand a trade and whine and pout. Free agents can make a decision to not sign there. But they haven't seen an issue with doing it yet. I'm sure some will, out of principle. I bet there's others that will happily go there to try to ring chase, or because of $$$

And my above is in NO WAY condoning what he said. And would love for the league to just give him the boot. But they probably should have looked into it a while ago, also.

The guy is a piece of shit. There have been other examples of him being a piece of shit. The NBA will decide what it wants to do. They aren't going to let players out of their contracts though. They will want the team to be as valuable as possible if they choose to seize the team. I could see the NBA buying him out and finding a new owner.

That could take years, and again, that opens up many unintended consequences. The NBA has no jurisdiction if a player sues. Where is it written in the CBA that the owners can void a player's contract by voting a simple majority?

Agreed. And again, I think the guy's a scum, but then, don't sign there in the first place. The Magic's owner is a big supporter opposing gay marriage, when that comes out, do you then allow those players to get out of their contract? Do you then allow other players out of their contracts if they don't agree with something about their owner, after the fact?

I'm just curious, but do people really think that Donald Sterling is the only rich guy to have a low opinion of minorities?

I've always thought Sterling was a dirtbag, so I'm not defending him, either. I'm just saying that the smartest emotional move in matters like this isn't necessarily the smartest business move.

Maxie, I agree with you. I do not think there should be legal penalties for speech, outside of very specific cases of actual threats. I disagree with many of my usual allies because I oppose laws against "hate speech". But "free speech" is only free legally; it does not mean no consequences. That's part of the famous personal responsibility, a responsible adult takes consequences of what he/she says and a person in the public eye more so. And if you want a recent example, look how Sean Hannity and others who proclaimed Cliven Bundy a hero (despite the fact that he is nothing but a freeloader on us taxpayers, and why did he fly American flags if he does not recognize the United States?) dropped him like a hot potato when he expressed Sterling-type views. Unlike his other actions, no laws were broken when he orated on "the Negro" but speech has consequences.

How would I feel if Paul Allen said some crap like that? Well, I'm glad he's apparently not someone who would, although he's sure done other things I disagree with. But I lived through the Charlie Finley years in Oakland and my consolation was the players loathed him as much as the fans did.

Having no love of anything Los Angeles I'd like to see the Clippers lose, but in fair play.
