So: Memphis signed him and played him to screw Portland. They and his agent made it sound like they were sticking up for Miles - protecting his right to play. In fact, they did not give a shit, either about him or their team (as it was never about what was good for their team). Also: either Portland actually lied, or their doctors lied or Memphis knowingly put Miles' health at risk to fuck with us. And Portland is the team that comes out smelling of shit?

Actually, I was thinking of this when DeJuan Blair was being discussed at the draft. The word was that literally most of the team doctors in the league refused to clear him to play. But San Antone's doctor is okay with it. So maybe Portland's doctor is one of the cautious ones which would explain passing on Blair (what, three times?) and give legitimacy to the claim that our teams doctors legitimately thought Miles should retire.

If I'm not mistaken though, Miles was deemed medically unfit for play by independent, NBA doctors. Not the Blazers' medical staff.

Hmm... I don't think that it's inconsistent for Portland and its doctors to REALLY believe Miles was done for his career and then, a couple of years later, for other doctors (and Miles) to disagree.

Portland shouldn't feel bad or look bad, in my opinion. They tried to minimize a terrible contract given to a guy they thought was done, and they got medical opinion to support them. Their letter warning other teams was shoddy (I still can't believe that people defended the typographical errors in it), but it wasn't entirely ridiculous, either.

On the other hand, I don't blame Memphis for doing what they did... even though as a Blazers fan I wish they had not.

Grizzlies still might bring him back. They probably just renounced him to get him off their cap, so they can use their cap space to sign a free agent (Iverson maybe?). Then they can just go and sign Miles to his minimum salary if they want.

I doubt it. He would have to serve another drug policy violation suspension before he could set foot on the court. The last suspension was 10 days. I wonder how much this one would be for a repeat violator.
