Well, not UW as much as Syracuse... On the MSP they(Oregon's AD) said they weren't scared of Washington at all. Syracuse is a 6 hour car ride from his home on the east coast, and they are in a BCS conference. They said UDub wasn't exactly looking for a coach like Kelley and were lookin' for some more experience from the HC position (even though I think a young, genious who thinks oustide the box is the best way to go, specially for a struggling program)
Kelley thinks we will win a title at Oregon, we wanted to keep Kelley, we are giving him a pay raise, and sometime in the next couple seasons he will be the Head Coach, and I think our program will take another big step forward. I think Chip's goals are to put this program among the elite in the country, and I think we do have the resources to do it.
They said that on the recruiting trails, Bellotti would be visiting a recruit and they would ask "Is Chip gonna be there? I really want to play for him". Which is why we have a good shot to land another #1 RB recruit (Bryce Brown i think his name is) in the country (We got Stewart from Washington a couple years ago) and have a bunch of 4-5 stars looking at us... we also have all the tools on our team right now for another double digit win season next year (as does Oregon State right now, gotta give the Beavs some love, keep your heads up my friends!).
This would be the wrong time to leave Oregon right now, as your resume would get even better after next year with...
Masoli, Blount, Maehl, Dickson on offense coming back... Paysinger, Byrd (hopefully), Thurmond, Ward, Matthews, etc on D coming back. I hope we can build on this season, and with steady QB play throughout the season, i like our chances... and we got Chris Harper who is going to break out next year and is a phenominal 4 star recruit fresh on our team, LaMichael James, and Darron Thomas will probably red-shirt next year and have 2 years once Masoli graduates to dominate, as he is a special player!!!
I know i'm blabbling on, but i'm just in such a good mood from my 2 sports teams right now! (Ducks football and Blazers basketball).
Edit - mobes, to answer your Q on why recruits want to play in this system...
Its because its fun, it really really really gets the most out of players ability, its almost a guarantee that it will be a high flying offense that piles on the yards. Players love that... Specially RBs and WRs, whose skills really become apparent in a system like Oregon/Florida/Missouri etc... For QBs, its a bit tougher on the transfer to the NFL, but for college, they love it as well.
