Eddie Jordan was fired as coach of the Washington Wizards on Monday after opening the season 1-10 without injured starters Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood.

Ed Tapscott, the Wizards’ director of player development, will replace Jordan on an interim basis, running his first practice as the team’s new head coach Monday morning, a team spokesman said.

Wow... L. Frank now the longest tenured coach in the Eastern Conference?

When does the GM get fired for handicapping that franchise for years to come?

He deserves another job. A better one, actually.

I can see him going back to be head coach of the Kings. OKC with Durant and Westbrook would be interesting with the Princeton offense.

I think Reggie Theus is doing fine, right?

OKC has an immediate opening, but the roster is a mess. He might want to wait before committing to that job.

Saw something in Yahoo where Kenny Smith said he thought Theus was on the hot seat. Just a media opinion so who knows how credible. However, I know sometimes when there is a past relationship (Petrie and Jordan) sometimes it doesn't take much to instigate a change.

I had a feeling this was going to happen.

It is unfortunate that he was offered a job at Washington before we fired Scott.

I would rather have him then Frank.

Can the happen with the Nets?

Who wouldn't. Heck if the Bulls were smart they'd fire Del Negro right now.

Thorn has as much a relationship with Frank as Jordan and Frank is doing a great job and has a plan in place that I don't see them wanting to fuck with.

Frank with Carter, Harris and a bunch of young guys is doing way better than Jordan did with Jamison, Butler and a bunch of young players.

I like Jordan but I think Frank is a little better due to his instance on the team playing defense.

then his team's 42% opponentage percent from the perimeter, and total points allowed are the second worst in the league now.

His strategy is protecting the paint in the first, so that's why we always get fired on by the opponent shooters.

Something tells me another 3 or 4 coaches will be fired until the season is over. lol

The team is young. Eventually they'll learn to get those rotations down and all will be well. There's times when they are getting it right and protecting the perimeter so I think it has to be due to the learning process.

total points allowed are the second worst in the league now.

They are 5th worst in points allowed and 6th best in points scored. That's a .500 team.

The differential should improve as the team plays together longer. That's a good sign.

I'm a Kings fan, and I would love nothing more than for Theus to get canned.

the thunder absolutely stink right now, but they could be set up nicely for a coach to come in and endure a few losing seasons before turning it around. desmond mason and joe smith will be dealt for more draft picks by the deadline, the are loaded with draft picks.

jordan would be a good fit there.

A couple of comments--

(1) From what I've seen, over the past two games or so, the Nets have been better at contesting three-point shots. Unfortunately, they have still gone in.
(2) Let's leave the three-point shots out of it for a sec. Just focusing on shot attempts inside the arc, the Nets' are holding the opposition to the 15th lowest (or highest, I guess) FG%. They are just four-tenths of one percent away from the ninth best. That's not horrible, and will get better over the next few months as the team gets more used to playing together. I can accept horrible perimeter defense, if the Nets become one of the top interior defensive teams in the league.
(3) In addition to the three-point shots, one major reason why they are allowing so many points is that they are committing the most personal fouls (25.6). League average is around 21-22. If they could get down to the league average, that would make a difference of roughly five points a game. Think about it; that is HUGE. If they could do that, the poor perimeter defense would not be as important. They surrender 22.3 three-point shots per game, and the opposition makes 9.3 of them. Lowering the number of personal fouls to the league average would have the same effect as if they surrendered just 7.8 three-pointers instead of 9.3 (roughly). That would be a 35% shooting percentage which would be GREAT. My point: Stop bitching about the perimeter defense, just focus on the fouls, which is easier, and the effect will be the same.

Incidentally, their opponents PPG average is now fifth worst, not second worst.
