I apologize if this was posted already, but I just noticed this on Yahoo!

In a move that could damage the salary-cap flexibility of the Portland Trail Blazers, Darius Miles is close to signing a minimum-salary contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, two NBA sources said Friday.

Miles recently worked out for the Los Angeles Clippers, who drafted him third overall in 2000, but team officials said they would prefer to wait until January to decide whether to sign him. The Grizzlies had room for another player after trading guard Javaris Crittenton to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday and appear to have settled on Miles after looking at D-League options. One source said only a last-minute veto by Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley could keep the team from signing Miles.

Miles has not played in an NBA game since April 15, 2006, because of a serious injury to his right knee. The Trail Blazers waived Miles at the end of last season and an independent doctor declared the injury career-ending. The retirement ruling allows the Blazers to remove the $18 million he’s owed over two seasons off their salary cap, allowing them to become major players in the free-agent market.

Miles will get paid regardless of whether he again plays in the NBA, but if he appears in 10 games this season his salary goes back on the Blazers’ cap. Complicating matters, Miles will be suspended for the first 10 games he spends on a team’s active roster because he violated the league’s anti-drug policy by testing positive for a banned weight-loss stimulant.

Miles, 27, was drafted out of high school by the Clippers, who traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers after two seasons. In 412 career NBA games, he’s averaged 10.7 points and 5.2 rebounds. Hoping to revive his once-promising career, he spent training camp with the Boston Celtics but was waived before the start of the season.

...who knows [maybe to fill Warrick's spot when he gets packaged with Conley]??? :dunno:

I thought the game said it was the Clippers who were close?

Anyone else think that his agent is floating these rumors in desperation?

Putting pressure on Portland to make a deal with them? Fuckers. If that's the case then I don't want what they've got. Screw um

Grizzlies should have cap space this summer, so it would just be a good strategic move. They suck, so they can afford to fart around playing Miles for a few minutes a night.

That would be genius of them... that being said no way that's their plan, they aren't that smart.

wait.....this is the same team that gave away Gasol for nothing? I highly doubt they could pull off something this sneaky. :D

It gets annoying when people say we got nothing for that trade. Pau had a big contract, we got rid of that with that trade. We got a big expiring, a young prospect that has turn into a damn good player (Marc), and got a first rounder and got a big steal from it. I'm not saying that would of been the most any team would of given us, but it isn't as bad as people make it sound.

Also, the Conley trade rumors have seemed to died down over here, I don't know whether or not it has in Portland, but it has here. I don't think Chris Wallace wants to trade him yet. The last few games he has really been showing us what we expected from him all along.

How about this?

Bulls Trade: Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng, Tyrus Thomas

Blazers Trade: Joel Pryzbrilla and Raef Lafrentz.

The reason I don't see Joel going anywhere until the draft is this:

If Oden goes out of the game (rest, fouls, injury, whatever) we're in the exact same position we were last year when Joel wasn't in...abused on interior defense and rebounding. It's one thing if Oden can go 40 minutes and we have a defensive project big, but I don't think we're there yet.

What the fuck is Chris Wallace doing over there? He gets rid of Pau for chicken shit, and wants to sign Darius Miles??? The guy is in the Kevin McHale Hall of Fame of ridiculously stupid GMs of all-time.

You don't play htat game. Oden is your future, and the mindset should be Oden or bust.

Bulls made this mistake with Hinrich this summer. We could have Al Harrington, or some other guy with an expiring contract (maybe even Raef's contract), but Paxson wanted to keep Hinrich in case Rose wasn't ready for primetime and as Gordon insurance. It was clear early on that Hinrich had no longterm position on this team, and now the expiring contracts available have dwindled.

Did you guys ever stop to think that maybe they just want Darius' work ethic and veteran leadership on their team? :)

Ugh, won't make such a bad week any better if Darius gets signed.

1/5.

While I agree with the first part, and think that Oden's starting every game he's healthy for the next 12 years or so, I think there's a difference b/w Rose and Oden's situations on their teams. For instance, if Rose went down and Hinrich was traded, you'd still have plenty of "serviceable" guards that could play the 1. If Oden went down (much like when Joel did last year) for injury, or foul trouble, or rest, or ineffectivenes....we're staring at Channing Frye and LMA as our 4/5 combo. Not beefy, not really interested for the most part in D...bad juju.

Dear Lord, yes.

I like Joel a lot, but Deng would be a great get for this team.

Luol and Kirk are overpaid for a WHILE. Joel has been great for us this year, and is relatively affordable.

Talent wise, it's a great trade for us, but I am not sure I would pull that trigger; it would certainly be buying low for Deng.

28.4 0.422 0.388 0.735 0.7 3.2 3.9 1.2 0.6 0.4 1.11 2.10 10.7
34.2 0.427 0.300 0.836 1.3 3.6 4.9 1.7 1.1 0.6 1.68 1.40 14.2

is one of these lines HUGELY better than the other? One is way cheaper...

I think it's a good trade for both teams. Rose/Gordon (and Hughes) have made the Bulls a top team in the league at both guard positions. This trade allows the Bulls to become a player in 2010, in which they will surely land at least one big name, perhaps even Lebron James, but I think Amare Stoudemire with the Vinny connection would be the most likely. Joel Przbrilla is just the first center role player we move in. If the Blazers have a cheap three point small forward they could send us in the trade as well, that'd be great.

Bulls would then hopefully have:

PG-Derrick Rose
SG-Ben Gordon
SF-Thabo Sefolosha/Andres Nocioni
PF-Amare Stoudemire/Joakim Noah
C- Joel Pryzbrilla/Omer Asik

As their rotation post-2010. Rose/Gordon will finally have both a big man scorer (Amare) and a guy to back them up on defense (Pryzbrilla and Asik).

It's a reduction move, soley aimed at getting cap space, but for certain, guys are going to want to come and play with Derrick Rose, so we're almost assured someone out of the really good bunch.

You got luckier than people expected with Marc- but it was still an awful trade- made the Lakers an instant contender.

If the Docs don't think the injuries he struggled with last season are chronic then I'd imagine Portland would jump on this if it was offered. Deng can play on both ends within a team concept. Yes please!

Half the complaint was that they passed up the Bulls better package of Andres Nocioni, Tyrus Thomas, and Joakim Noah.

By taking the Lakers deal, Memphis hit that one out of the park as best as they could. They'd be capital F fucked if they took the Bulls "better" deal. Even if the Bulls were willing to do the Grizzlies proposed counter offer (PJ Brown and Joakim Noah I believe) they would have been worst off. Good trade by the Grizz.

His injuries are a great source of mystery. He hasn't missed much time this year, but at a couple points a "sore back" has been mentioned. And apparently something seen in an mri on his back last year caused the NBA's insurance carrier to not fully cover his contract.

This year he's been pretty routinely abused by more athletic players. Hakim Warrick and Rudy Gay both had their way with him last night. It's getting to the point of being quite frustrating. He was never more than an adequate athlete, but now he's playing like less than that defensively. Offensively he's not moving without the ball much, which used to be the great strength of his game.

All in all, I don't like what I see, and it might be the first time I'd be in favor of the Bulls continuing their tradition of signing their young guys to big deals and then trading them pretty quickly afterwards.

Why do you want to trade Luol Deng?

Bulls need a big man. Rose/Gordon are clearly the two best players, and it's not even close. Bulls need a big man to make them a more versatile scoring team. The trade will accomplish two things. Give us the chance to get that star big man, and give us a good role player in Joel, who will drastically improve our interior defense. We are currently worst in the league in that area. We should be getting interior defense with Omer Asik in 2010, but it'd be nice to have some before then.

It's just a redistributement of talent in the longrun, and the 2010 free agent will probably be quite a bit better than Deng as well, while Pryzbrilla would make more sense for our team than Hinrich.
