Well it has been said in "Howard's camp" that he wants to play for L*kers or New York. Let's see what could be offered.

New York's offer: Amare and Billups for Howard and Arenas.

Why this would be okay for Orlando? Well Amare's per is 22.8 and Billups is 18.8. Howard's per is 26.1 and Arenas's is 10.8. Basically an even swap on "paper talent". Another plus would be taking off Orlando's terrible Arenas's contract helps too.

L*ker's offer: Gasol and Bynum for Howard and Arenas.

Why would this be okay for Orlando? Same reason about taking back solid talent in return, while freeing themselves of Arenas's contract. As far as "paper talent" is concerned; Orlando gets more talent back. The combined "PER" for Orlando is 36.9 and the combined "PER" for Gasol and Bynum is 44.4. This maybe the reason the L*kers wouldn't want to do it. I still feel Orlando is still bitter about losing Shaq to the L*kers too; so that maybe the swaying factor in the decision.

So if you were the Orlando GM; which would you prefer?

i hope he gets traded to the bucks and there is a franchise tag

I think you’re NY offer is much better for Orlando but I doubt the Knicks would be interested in such a deal. They realize Amare and Melo are two top players in this league but they are not enough to win a title. The upgrade from Amare to Dwight is still not enough to compete for a championship. NY needs to add another great player, and when Billups contract expires next summer they could possibly be in a position to sign Chris Paul or even Dwight Howard himself without giving up Amare or absorbing Gilberts horrendous contract. Even if the Knicks can’t get Paul or Amare they may be able to get another borderline all-star such as Deron Williams. A team with Deron/Amare/Melo is superior to Howard/Melo/Arenas.

If LA gives up Gasol AND Bynum while also absorbing the awful Arenas contract they may be able to get Howard. I wouldn't mind that trade as much since LA would lose the second best player from their 4 consecutive title runs. Dwight is an upgrade to Bynum but having to play Joe Smith instead of Pau Gasol will make the Lakers very beatable. The undersized Lamar Odom would have to start at PF; the already weak bench would be much worse. LA would definitely be amongst many in the west as possible contenders but Kobe/Odom/Artest are declining every year and do not scare me. A straight Bynum for Howard swap would make the Lakers much stronger.

Lawlz. The Lakers' aren't gonna trade both Pau and Bynum for D12. You know this--superstars don't get equal value in return. He'll force his way to NY, LA, or NJ and the Magic will get fucked.

I think it would end up being Gasol & Odom for Howard & Hedo.

I think Bynum/Odom.

I don't think the Magic would want Gasol. Who would right now?

I don't think the Lakers are going to trade Bynum and Orlando doesn't have any leverage in negotiations unless the new CBA radically changes. The Magic might even pawn Gasol off to a third team for younger pieces.

Lawlz..a starting front court of Bynum and Howard.

There would likely be a separate deal after they have Howard for a dominant backcourt player.

Ha ya. If LA gets Howard Bynum will surely be involved. Him and Howard would totally canibalize each others benefits on the same team.

Orlando will definetaly have SOME leverage since they have the star player under contract and the Lakers have zero chance of getting under the cap. NY would have had cap room to sign Melo outright but still had to give up Gali, Chandler, Felton. Howard is a superior player and thus should cost even more.

I wonder if Orlando fans would rather see Howard walk than get unfair value for him. I think that I would, if I were a Magic fan.

Hopefully there's some sort of franchise tag or something to ensure that every team can keep their top player. It's not fair to Magic fans that they might end up losing the best centers of the last two generations for no compensation.

What leverage does Orlando have if Dwight Howard tells them he's leaving and will only agree to play in Los Angeles or New York? If I'm Dwight Howard I'd rather play on the West Coast because you don't have to deal with the Heat Trio and the Bulls. Unless New York can acquire while keeping Amare & Melo it's not going to improve his chances of winning a Championship.

The New York/Melo deal doesn't set any precedence for what Orlando hopes to get for Howard.

Is it fair to Dwight Howard his GM botched a bunch of trades and didn't leave any room to improve the team for the next 5 years?

He's given the franchise 7 years of his services already. He should be allowed to go where he wants after his current deal is up or if they decide to trade him prior to it ending.

LOLz at you homers thinking you only have to give up Bynum and Odom for Howard. They would want Gasol and Bynum. End of story. Go ahead and tell them to fuck off and keep your roster. I guess it's good enough then. And don't think you'll get him via free agency, since you are in cap hell!

Leverage? Um... I think Chicago or New York would love to get Howard. Paring Howard and Rose would be title city. You act as though they can only deal with L.A. Hahahahahaa

yeah im sure dho will sign with la for the mle

lakers have no cap room = cant sign howard

Man I never thought someone would be more homer than I was in proposed deals. Laker fans just expect it to happen without realizing they only have "The City of L.A." for them. No cap, no real valuable pieces and Kobe demanding almost 80 mil in the next 3 years. HAHAHAHAHA

Bynum, Odom, Artest and Fisher's contracts all expire the same time Howard's deal expires. The Lakers would have the cap space to sign him outright or worst case scenario work a sign and trade with the Magic.

Mags I'm sure every team in the league would want Howard if they had the opportunity. However Howard has a short list of teams and would New York have enough to attract Howard after they give up Amare for him? You think Howard and Carmelo can compete with LeBron-Wade-Bosh?

If the Bulls paired him with Rose who would they have to give up and would that deal be better than what the Lakers would be offering? Would Orlando really want to trade Dwight Howard to a team in the East or ship him out West?

I think you are mis-informed. Artest is signed until 2013/14 and 2012/13 is player option. Basically he won't leave. But the true "reality" is 2011/12; when it's actually Howard's player option. If he is truly wanting out of Orlando, then he waits another season so he can go to the Lakers? When Kobe is way past his prime? I don't think so.

And looking at the year you even suggested, only Bynum and Odom will be off subtracting 24 mil off the books. They are at 67 mil, so that would drop them to 43 mil salary. With the CBA renegotiations, many believe the cap will actually go down. Right now the cap is somewhere at 56 mil. So even if Howard plays another year, then bolts, will he take 13 mil to play with an aging Kobe and no supporting cast?

How about Miami offers Chris Bosh? Less injury-prone than Bynum (by a significant margin) and a lot younger than Gasol or Odom. I doubt Howard would object to that...

LMAO! And he gets to stay in Florida too! Doesn't even have to sell his house.

You all sound like 12 year olds. None of the shit mentioned here will happen. It's not days of our lives.

I'm watching Atlanta give the Bulls all they can handle. Seems to me Atlanta could offer any two out of Horford, Smith, Crawford or Joe Johnson for Howard and one of the Magic's bad contracts and take a risk that they could persuade Howard to stay. If it's a matter of Orlando just taking the best offer they can get, that would beat the old, overpaid and or injury-prone offerings the Lakers have. And remember where Howard went to high school...

LOL, yeah, Orlando has no leverage. True, for some teams. But they have plenty of leverage over an LA team that has no room to sign him. You trade something good, or you don't get him. And if you're orlando, and he says I only want to go to LA, you say ok, enjoy the MLE. Go fuck yourself. leverage.

I fully expect Howard to end up in LA for virtually nothing. Stern has the NBA set up so that there are maybe 6 franchises that he wants to play for a title. The rest of us are the minor leagues just waiting to feed the big boys. It's getting harder and harder to watch this league unless you are a fan of one of the pet franchises

Nah, Stern will force a wanna be franchise to take on salary from the L*kers so they can sign him to more money

I'm of the same mind. If Howard is going to leave, force him to go for MUCH less money. Don't even entertain a sign and trade. Now, if a team he wants to play for has a ton of capspace, then you likely have to deal with them at least a little.
