Side note: John Stockton might be one of the most overrated players in NBA history. Malone carried that Jazz team, especially when they made the finals in 97 and 98. I'll always remember Porter besting him big time during the 91 and 92 playoffs.

Yeah. I do too. I meet a lot of guys who always go off on Stockton as the most overrated player in NBA history. In fact, Stockton is the "one" player they feel this way about. Are they f-cking kidding me? I heard Isaiah Thomas say recently that Stockton is unquestionably one of the greatest PG in league history. And he hated the man.

During the 1992 Western Conference Finals, Terry Porter averaged 26 pts, on 55% shooting (46-84), including 53% from downtown (18-34), 8.3 assts, 4 rebs, and 1 stls to help power Portland past Utah 4-2 in that series. John Stockton put up 14.3 pts, 40% shooting (27-68), including 23% from distance (6-26),11.2 asts, 2.2 rebs, and 1.3 stls.

Advantage: Porterland.

Stockton was never a big scorer, although those shooting percentages were low by his standards. You can't ignore an extra 3 assists per game, though.

Those extra 3 assists are nearly 50% more than Porter's average. The scoring gap impact isn't nearly as big as your numbers make it seem. And you also have to factor in Stockton's elite defense and all-around game management.

You are talking about just the six games and stats mentioned?

If so you should quit now. I'm not worried about overrated but these numbers don't lie. Elite defense and game management can't be factored if Porter put up 26 a game and won the series. Just concede the point and move along.
