It's hard to think that KMart's time in devnver has been anything but disappointing. Unfortunately due to the length of his contract, and the injuries that are plaguing him, I'm not sure that he'll be playing in the league past this contract :-(

Hard to figure what would be worse for the Nuggets, keeping him or buying him out. He will never be worth his contract. Even he has admitted his days as a high flier are over. Hard to imagine him being that valuable or reliable with those heavily damaged knees. He is the first player to attempta recovery from microfracture surgeries on both knees. </p>

He is owed $59.841 millionover the next four seasons. Assume they buy him out at the normal 75% rate, that would mean the biggest buyout ever...$40+ million if sometime this season. Andunder those circumstances, his contract would still be carried on the Nuggetscap at 75% of what he would have gotten, more than $12 million,for example, in the lastyear of the deal. That puts them in cap hell. </p>

Unless he makes a miraculous recovery or can somehow adapt his game to his health issues, the contractis likelyto be the worst of all time. </p>

(And the deal that was offered in the summer of 2003 was $66 million over six. He not only turned it down but demanded a trade, as you recall)</p>

The only thing thats "haunted" Nets fans is management's failure to follow up that fantastic trade with the simple act of REPLACING HIM with another player.</p>

It's why they drafted Sean Williams. Not just for the shot-blocking but for the perimeter defense. I don't expect much from Williams this season since he is three years younger than KMart was when he joined the team, but I do expect a lot down the road.

I have to disagree with that. A number is part of a player's identity. For four years he was identified with the #6 while he was playing here in the best years of his NBA career, so I'd say there is some sentimentality with that. </p>

I have to disagree with that. A number is part of a player's identity. For four years he was identified with the #6 while he was playing here in the best years of his NBA career, so I'd say there is some sentimentality with that. </p></div>

Once a player is no longer on a team, it makes no difference to me who wears it next. I'd have no problem with a player on the Pirates wearing 21 or a player on the Penguins wearing 66 and those guys are all time greats </p>
