Understandable mistake. He played for the Lakers, which is almost the same as playing for the Trail Blazers.
The Jeopardy category was "I went to UCLA." The clue was one of Kareem's lines from the movie "Airplane," starring Kareem.
Tell your old man
to drag this '70s
UCLA & Trail Blazer
center (& Lanier!)
up & down
the court
for 48 minutes.
The clue is so long, multi-phrased, multi-lined (7), and convoluted (3 ampersands, 1 apostrophe, 1 exclamation mark, 2 parentheses, 2 digits, 1 all-caps word) that he quickly assumed the question was--Which actor, who had attended UCLA, said the line in the movie? My instant reaction was the same.
Now, I notice the word "this," which changes the question to--Plug a former Bruin into the clue, to replace the words "UCLA and Trail Blazer center."
That's too much to figure out in less than a second. Bad clue.

I completely agree. I would have answered Kareem as well if I was Kareem.
Were you pretending to be Kareem all the other times you've been completely wrong here?

Huh? Were you pretending to be somebody that I give a shit about?
Can't wait to meet you at the Claim Jumper next Friday!
I want to see what makes someone like you tick. Why would you care what I post, and what have I been "completely wrong" about?

Wait, I'm confused. Since you don't give a shit about me yet can't wait to meet me does that mean you will or won't be buying me a drink?
This should be fun
I'll buy you a drink, if that's your thing. See you at 6pm! I'm harmless. Thanks for pointing out my contadiction. We'll discuss it further!
I do truly look forward to meeting you. Everyone I've met at the 2 Meet and Greets and last year's Wheels get together have been great!
Go Blazers!
Sweet! If you have the time, please bring a list of "all the times" that I have been "completely wrong" on this forum. Allow me the opportunity to explain how I have been factually incorrect before you slam me in person? They do have Bridgeport IPA on tap at the Claim Jumper, but I do have standards!
This should be fun.
You're just jealous because we'd get along like black beans and spanish rice thrown into a tortilla with monterey jack, medium cheddar, chile-seasoned chicken and sour cream.
Did I mention I made burritos tonight?
I'd buy you a drink. And bring a carefully annotated binder of all the times you've been completely wrong. I checked for all the times I've been completely wrong and found "[Records Missing]."
