OT: LA gets the 2011 ASG

Not really, this year I only watched Rudy. Still, if it were in Portland, I'm sure there would be events to go to, people to meet, things to do, even if the actual game was too expensive for most people. It's one of those things that I pretend I don't really care about, but I'll secretly admit that it'd be pretty cool to see in Portland.

you include San Antonio and New Orleans but not New York and Miami?

New York = Cold Weather Town.

Miami could be part of the rotation.

The Dallas one should be good, because fans can actually see the game, since it will be in Cowboy Stadium. (Although you probably can't really see good basketball action from the seats fans will be able to get.)

It's ridiculous though, imo, that tickets aren't even made available for the Saturday night.

LA, Orlando, San Antonio, Phoenix, and New Orleans should rotate.

Yes, I am pissed off that the All-Star Game has never been held in Portland, and have ranted on that fact many times. However, the All-Star Game used to be a fan-friendly event that was meant to award franchises and their fans for their loyalty and business to the NBA. It ceased to be that about 15 years ago, now it's just a corporate showcase for the NBA to kiss the ass of their sponsors. The Vegas ASG was really the nail in the coffin of a once-fun weekend. Now I don't give two shits if the NBA brings the ASG to the Rose Garden, it's not like you or I could get tickets (face value, anyway) to the damn thing.

Yep, truth this is. The ASG is for the NBA sponsors for the most part. Portland just doesn't have the amenities for spoiled rich billionaire corporate people to enjoy a weekend outside of the NBA stuff. It's all right to me though.

I think it'd be fun to have for the festivities and stuff around the ASG weekend, but the whole Saturday night events and the All-Star game itself is overrated.

I really haven't cared much about the All-Star weekend for a while. The only thing worth watching is the game, and that's only if we have a player on the west roster.

Is simple. LA is where the big money is at. not Portland. I dont know whats the big deal anyway..

There is a simple reason why the nba will never beat the nfl...

the nfl promotes all their teams not just the big city teams....

Every one knows that LA can get the big money. But maybe spread around the product more. Increasing interests in other markets could benefit the game especially consider LA had one a few years ago.

Which further cements the conspiracy theories out there. The NBA has turned into promoting the same cities all the time, the same individual players all the time.

"So, Mr. Stern, do you have any preference on who you'd like to see in the Finals this year?"

"Lakers vs. Lakers, of course!"

Chicago hasn't had the Allstar game since Michael Jordan stole the show at Chicago Stadium. And Stern can't really shovel that amenities crap.

The problem with Chi-town comes from the fact that there's a considerable distance between the hotels the NBA would like to use and the United Center.

Insofar as ASW is concerned, I'll settle for watching three All Stars 41 nights a year rather than 30 All Stars one night.

Sam Smith said in his mailbag that the Bulls made a policy after the 1988 Allstar game not to make a bid for the game because their fans complained about not being able to get tickets to the 1988 game.

Is it possible the Blazers have a similar policy?
