The Clippers are going to be good. The parts fit. They have size, shooting and rebounding. They can play fast or slow. Their best player (Baron Davis) is motivated again. They have the Gordon/Griffin combo, only the NBA's best young inside/outside combo. They have a bench. They have cap flexibility (only $36 million committed next season). This is a playoff team. I'm telling you. And as I've written many times, Clipperland remains the most logical 2010 LeBron destination on paper. It's true.

He could them compete with Kobe for the same audience...imagine all the broken ankles of "laker" fans who leap off the bandwagon?

In a way, I think that'd be cool. If Cleveland isn't where LeBron is most welcomed, I'd go to LA. Granted, the Clippers owner is a pile of crap, but it would be a cool place to live.

when was the last time a prominent NBA player went to the NY metro area on purpose?

I think the chances of LeBron going to the Nets, other than to play as an opponent, are about as good as the Boston Red Sox winning the Stanley Cup this year.
 
He's wrong about the amount of committed salary for the Clippers. I have them at $42.3 million in salaries and cap holds, which I project will give them $11.2 million in cap room. Not even close enough to go for LeBron.

Here's my projection from last month.

Yeah, I need to do an update of that projection as soon as the month ends and we know what rookie scale options were picked up, but Simmons is way off on his projection of Clipper cap space.

But in reality if Lebron wanted to leave the Cavs I bet he would sign an offer sheet with a team and then that team and the Cavs would reach some sort of a sign and trade so Lebron could get max max money and the Cavs wouldn't get completely screwed over.
 
The best part of this is it would guarantee Lebron would never win a championship. Ever!:devilwink:

Wasn't the author Simmons? I never click into his stuff. Although I do hope to meet him in person on November 19th. You guys will pay my bail and court fees right? Oh and damages to Borders for the melee which will have ensued. I figure one knee for Greg one for Griffin. :D

Simmons only said salaries. It is true that they only have 36M in committed salary. If Thornton and a mid level first are the only thing holding you back from getting Lebron, they are gone in an NY second. I would also say Bassy would be interested in a buyout if need be.

I doubt Lebron does this without an ownership change though.
 
Simmons seems to have a faulty memory because he stated on multiple occasions that if LeBron only wanted to win championships and not make a max salary then Portland was his best destination on paper.

Baron Davis - $13.0 million
Chris Kama - $11.3 million
Blake Griffin - $5.4 million
Eric Gordon - $3.0 million
Sebastian Telfair - $2.7 million
Al Thornton - $2.8 million


That's $38.2 million.

Am I being picky? Absolutely. Because I'm sure that Simmons would argue that if the cap is set at $53 million and the Clippers have $38.2 million in committed salary, then they will have $14.8 million in cap room. And he would be wrong.

...and the Clippers dont have a bench as the article seems to think
