You bring back hand checking and some of these guards in the league would get a rude awakening. But I'm in favor of it for sure.

Should have said it was untouchable. They never would have changed it.

I have no problem with professional sports changing with the times. They pretty much always have or we'd be watching basketball with peach baskets, underinflated leather balls and no dribbling at all. The old rule of the game was to never leave your feet period...considered a terrible thing to do in a game. nothing but passing and set shots..sort of like middle school girls basketball

And back then people didn't like change just like now and we still love the game.

I think there should be another line, further out, but make it a 4 point line. That would do a lot to eliminate the boring, end of game - down by 4 or 5, foul, foul, foul - hope he misses a free throw thing. I hate that, and it never works. Hoist a 35 foot shot!

Globe Trotters have two or three 4pt circles on the court ....I'll check, but they've used those for awhile now. Sort of bullseye 4pt spots

Here's one of them...I think there are two on each side

Idle thought: what if shots in a 8 foot circle around the basket were worth 2 points, midrange 8-24 feet were worth 3, 24-32 feet worth 4, and beyond that worth 5?

You'd see a lot of 3/4 and full court pressure leading to fast breaks and transition shots. It'd be a completely different sport.

I don't expect anyone to like that; this is just a reminder to look into this tonight.

And what if you dunked yourself with the ball and it was worth ten points . That would really add an element to the game. Maybe small people could play.

They also need to widen the court. Find a way to move all seats one row back. Make the corner three 23.5 feet (18 inches further back), but make the sideline 2 feet back so players big shoes can fit there. Along with a deeper three at the crest, perhaps 25 feet, it would give more court spacing which would make the game more exciting. Players are too big, strong, athletic, and quick to be in the same sized court as 50 years ago.

They should really use an 11 foot hoop as well but that seems too radical of a chance. That would make a dunk a truly epic play!

The owners would never go for the loss of the revenue from those premium seats. They would probably go for 4 on 4 play before they let seats vanish. Not saying I agree. I think there is also a liability with how close cameramen sit under the basket and am surprised there aren't more injuries with players crashing into them.

A balanced NBA game would value the long shot as much as the close shot. The best three point shooter (like a Kyle Korver) should have roughly the same eFG% as the best two point shooter (like a DeAndre Jordan). When I get time tonight I'll get the average eFG% of the top 30 of each type and see how far unbalanced the game is in either direction.

Not true. Equivalent eFG% shots are not all equal. A missed shot is more valuable because the team can get an offensive rebound. If a team makes the shot the opponent gets the ball 100% of the time.

Offensive rebounds don't help more than making a shot because they just continue an otherwise unsuccessful possession. If you make a shot you're rewarded with points. If you get an offensive rebound you're rewarded with the OPPORTUNITY to get points.

How about just use the half court line?

Math fail

Blocked shots = 1 point. That way shit free throw shooting big men can contribute by not being shit on defense.

Each player gets to pick a 2 foot in diameter circle and that area is worth 1 extra point if they make a shot from there. Big guys and slashers could get 3 point layups while shooters could get 4 point shots. Defenses would take away the circles which are painted on the floor pregame.

When refs blatantly change momentum of a game fans can vote with an iPad under their chair whether or not the ref should be crucified

All of these are fun but that last one is VITAL

The flagrant foul will now be an automatic ejection but will also be worth 5 points in the forth quarter. This way if you are being blown out by 25 you can get back in the game by making your white guys feel useful
