The NHL might as well put Mar-tan Brodeur in the NHL HOF right here and now. No doubt Brodeur was as great as Roy, Fuhr, Vernon, Cujo, Hasek, Balfour, and the list goes on. Brodeur much like Roy & Hasek, are all 3 in a league of their own....The best of the best.....What I'd give to see Brodeur shut out every team he plays, and resurrect his stature, as the current greatest goalie in Hockey......:smiley-yup::smiley-bowdown:

Martin Brodeur to start tonight for the #STLBlues. The recently signed future Hall Of Famer will be between the pipes tonight against the Nashville Predators. Brodeur's last NHL game was April 13th against the Boston Bruins.

The #STLBlues have signed legendary goaltender Martin Brodeur to a one-year deal. Brodeur is the NHL's all-time leader in games played, wins and shutouts. He joined the Blues after the injury to starting netminder Brian Elliot. The Blues hope the veteran can provide some experience behind Jake Allen. When Brodeur suits up for the Blues, it will mark the first time in his NHL career that he's played for someone other than the New Jersey Devils.

“It’s going to feel great, it’s going to definitely be different,” Brodeur said about wearing blue and gold instead of red and white. “Not just for me, but for the fans. I’ve turned the page, and this is a new beginning that hopefully will come off with something great.” blues.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=741885

He's finished. Guys need to know when it's over.

When I saw the thread I actually had to ask "Martin who?" Didn't know he was a hockey player. I actually thought it was someone the Yankees were targeting. My bad.

I'm with Messiah... He should know when to fold them

I don't disagree with you both. I despise when an athlete extends himself beyond his glory years, into his fading sets of skills. Nothing sadder, than watching a once great Icon Epic Player, and no doubt a soon to be HOF'er....Nothing worse than watching those athlete's fall apart, unable to compete at the levels they once took for granted, while struggling, looking obviously like he should of retired quit some time ago. ie, Joe Namath, with the Rams, really Joe? Only 34 years old in his last year in L.A. yet obviously beaten up, with knees that wouldn't hold him up, he played a year or two too long. Made a mockery of his great years and self.

Mays in 73 extended himself a bit too much. His presence in Queens simply was a ticket seller. Mantle in 68, looked like his injury prone younger years had more than caught up to him. A sad sight, since Mantle lost several years to numerous injuries. "A Day to Remember"....!

The only over the hill in age athlete who continued to compete at a high level, IMO, was the Nolan Ryan Express, garnering his 7th No-No at the age of 45.

Gordie Howe may of been the one athlete in all sports who defied Father Time. In 73-74 Howe was 51 years old, and played in more games that year, than in any other year of his career, with the Hartford Whalers.

Satchel Paige, I never saw pitch, yet some say he could of remained competitive until he was 60 years old.

Unitas with the San Diego Chargers in 73, at 40 years of age; who did he think he was fooling other than himself? Father Time?

Marty is already 42, and NO Gordie Howe either. I'd simply like to see him start a game or two, and wind up with a shutout, and then hang it up. Martin is playing with fire, which will normally burn his fans memories of the one goalie who wouldn't let anyone score on any given night. Besides without Brodeur, New Jersey would of not won all those Lord Stanley Cups.

Yet-so often the risk isn't worth it....the ramifications of seeing a once Great HOF future player, in his demise and last legs, with nothing near as sharp skills and moves he had in his prime, just leaves a bad taste in all fans mouths. We want to remember our Heroes fondly. Now if they'd only think about as much....! Sad...but hoping for the best, only over a short time, before he must go out for good.

Yeah, but he had played for 1 team only & now to play a couple of games elsewhere???? & I can't see him only playing a couple....

I hear ya' Steve, and your right. I too see Brodeur as sticking it out, to be the 2nd or 3rd string Goalie, for the entire year. Yet, I would like to see him only play a couple of games at that. If he's successful, and beyond the norm, let him try to resurrect himself. Altho' I don't see that happening either....

So, if he does get a chance to play, and does not shine, let him go on to retirement pastures. I would doubt its because he need's the money, but then alot of athletes are bankrupt before a year is up, after retiring. I saw a good documentary on Athletes who are Bankrupt within one year after retiring, and the list was staggering, almost like the who's who of Professional Sports, all for bad choices, and lack of control of their finances, they begin to take for granted in their prime playing years. They soon forget those prime years, are very limited, as is the pay....not to mention what it does to tarnish their playing years, and career as a whole. I wouldn't want to see Jabbar return to the Lakers, or Montana under Center, or even Mo' return to the mound. At least Mo' went out in style, and so did Jeter, tho' Derek cut it close, yet succeeded.....
