OT: Minny is too white

Mr. Terrell and other "civic leaders".

Kahn is an idiot but these "leaders" are truly grasping at straws.

Gonna be the hardest working, scrappiest team in the league. Or whatever other terms they apply to white players.

"Lumberingest."
"Most luminous."
"Pensive."
"Suburbanest."
"Romneyriffic."

Yet, ESPN picked them to finish 3rd in the West. Could it be that some of those crackers can actually ball? With 78% of the players being African-American, I wasn't aware that the NBA needed affirmative action. Everyone scratched their heads when Kahn selected point guards back-to-back with the 5th and 6th picks back in 2009. Turns out the white guy was better, WAY better. Kahn kept Rubio (who happens to be white) and traded Flynn (who happens to be black). It was exactly the correct choice - based on talent, not skin color. And this makes him a racist? I can't believe Kahn is getting shit over the racial make-up of his roster - of all things. He is trying to make a perennial doormat relevant and this is the thanks he gets from some members of the local community. In spite of all his many failures, Kahn has managed to assemble the best roster Minnesota has had in nine years, and this is the thanks he gets. How about these so-called civic leaders evaluate the performance of the players based on the results, not the color of their skin. Isn't that what racial equality is supposed to be all about?

wait, 3rd best in the WHOLE west or 3rd in their division?

If they're 3rd best in the conference, they're on crack, smack and heroin.

They WILL not finish better than the Lakers, Spurs and OKC. And it's not likely they'll finish better than the Clippers either. Hell, they might not finish better than Denver.

They're without Love for a while, and Rubio. I think ESPN must've meant division.

I don't think, based on Love and Rubio being out, that they're better than us.

No they meant in the whole conference and Denver was #1.

This is so stupid. Racism only applies to black people I suppose.

As the article says, they targeted Hill and Batum. Minnesota is not a free agent hot spot. To get talent, they have targeted international players.

Pursuing Batum was clearly a smokescreen to throw the scent off of the racism.

What the hell is this article? LOL

Portland was "too white" for Oden.

The Wolves are "too white" to this attention whore.

I hate this double standard.

How is this any different than, say, Steve Nash unwilling to play in Atlanta because it's "too black"?

There would be an uproar if he even hinted at that.

What a heart warming story. I applaud the Timberwolves for their commitment to diversity, and in challenging the racial stereotypes in the black dominated NBA.

First, you will see the demographic shift in the NBA, more and more teams will become more white. Then, we'll begin the re-enslavement of the black man, next, we invade Mexico and turn the entire country into a vacation resort, refugees will be forced to do our landscaping as serfs.

This is only the beginning.

Why are you whites in this thread? We already know what you'll say. Stay out of it.

While this thread is pretty funny, you do have to wonder about Minnesota's intentions. It's like Utah in the late 90's... not a soul brother to be found in a soulless town.

You can't look at their roster, look me in the face, and tell me it was put together for basketball reasons, rather than marketing reasons.

C'mon... really?

How can you spend your offseason bringing in Budinger, Kirilenko, Shved, Stiemsma, and Amundson, on a team whose 1-2 marketing punch is Love-Rubio, and then act like your motives were solely based on the game of basketball and not catering to the local community?

I understand that the inverse, "OT: Minny is too black," sounds ridiculous. However, you can't contrapose the original logic. We're talking about a predominantly white community going out of their way to fill their roster with the game's minority of players to cater to their community. It's only right to question the motives.

Would you not question the motives of the Florida Panthers, if all of a sudden, all the black players in hockey wound up on their roster?

Because their first three targets were Nic Batum, Jordan Hill and Brandon Roy? Because they waived Webster in order to make the offer to Batum? Because as part of the Batum deal they tried to trade for Wilson Chandler? Because Wesley Johnson sucked so badly that they cut their losses to get cap space? Because they offered Anthony Tolliver a contract and brought in Hassan Whiteside, but Whiteside (amazingly enough) wasn't good enough and Tolliver wanted to sign with ATL? Because they wanted to talk to Andray Blatche, who said 'no thank you'?

No, you're probably right, they're racist as fuck.

This only becomes a real issue if they suck. But then again, if they suck really badly it'll be because they're missing Rubio and/or Love...

exactly. The more that Malcolm Lee and Dante Cunningham play instead of Rubio and Love, the fewer wins MIN will have.

Anyone else think Luke Babbitt is wearing a Timberwolves uniform next season?
