I just don't get the Perkins trade. What was Boston thinking? I think they just blew their shot at a title. OKC, meanwhile, now start Perkins and Ibaka together and are fearsome. But that does give them two non-shooting starters...

If Perkins can get/stay healthy they are going to be formidable in the playoffs. They finally have enough beef to contend with the Lakers, Mavs and Spurs.

Perkins is a 14 PER player who was traded for a 13 PER player.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't think this is a great deal for OKC, when you consider that Perkins is an UFA after this year.

PER doesn't accurately reflect the role Perkins is asked to play.

And I think it's a negative that they picked up Nate Robinson - he's not good for team chemistry.

You'd be right if PER actually measured post defense

He's asked to play 5th or 6th role player on the Celtics. What role is he going to play in OKC?

I just don't that matter too much in the West. Maybe I'm wrong, though.

Did you watch game seven of the finals last year when he blew his knee? That game completely turned because life got a whole lot easier for Pau Gasol.

Well, on OKC, that means get into foul trouble, doesn't it?

I am not sure what this means. He is a wide-body that can guard opposing centers and helps direct the defense from the rear. That's something OKC did not have before. They lost Green which is also an expiring they did not want to renew, they open the floor to Harden to take the scoring load that Green provided (Harden is probably a better player) - and they move Ibaka to play more PF instead of Green (a higher upside player in the same position).

They took a gamble on Perkin's knees - by basically replacing an ill-fitting piece that they would lose next year with a player that fits their needs better - with half a year to evaluate him up close to see if he is worth renewing next year.

Worst case scenario - they decide he is not worth it and lose him as they would have lost Green. Best case scenario - they are no longer undersized to compete against LAL and Dallas.

Maybe Boston has some peripheral reason unknown to the general public not to like Perkins (health/knee ?'s, secret heroin problem) but going on the little that I glean from watching games, I don't get it either.

STOMP

Perkins will guard the post players....Pau Gasol, Tim Duncan, Al Jefferson.....LaMarcus Aldridge

its weird that you ask because I don't think you saw it. first off, kg guards pau. secondly, perkins got injured in game six, not seven.

LOL. Well, I'll admit that my play-by-play recollection isn't there for the series, but I do remember things turned for the worse for the Celtics when Sheed had to play center in his place ... and for whatever reason Pau did get loose.

I think Stomp is on the right track; boston doesn't make this trade unless they think their system (or something) is making Perkins look better than he really is; they seem to see him as replaceable.

They really are not renewing him. Isn't he is an unrestricted free agent? He will have lots of options if he plays well. He is in control of his next destination.

He is at his best a 15 PER player for Boston, and he's an UFA after this year.

A puzzling move, unless OKC really thinks they have a shot at the title this season.

He is an UFA. I posted it right after the trade was made. I just don't get it, but then again, I'm not an ESPN analyst who watches every Celtic game 4 times a day.

I feel like Green has a much higher ceiling than Perkins. My initial reaction was that this would hurt OKC.

How about getting first crack given that they have his bird rights. No different from Green, honestly.

I think this move is being massively over-hyped by the media. Perkins is an ok player who benefited from playing on a team with three future hall-of-famers and one perennial all-star.

I know it is the same as Green, but if they didn't want to spend money on Green I wonder how much they offer Perkins. I do see he is from North Texas, so maybe they are hoping he will feel comfortable in OKC. A city I personally never cared for. (Except for their BBQ)

Perkins is a UFA isn't he? Can OKC convince him to stay?
