OT: Phil Jackson: Jordan was better than Kobe

Good read!!! I do like how true measurement of legacy is titles. If you don't have titles; you shouldn't be compared to any other player with titles IMO.

So Robert horry > karl malone?

I think the measuring meter is by the superstar, not role players.

But let's not kid ourselves. Karl Malone could have won two rings in Utah if it wasn't for Jordan. Also that Utah was the only team that almost beat those bulls.

I'm not sure you've noticed, but basketball is a team game. :)

The Suns came closest to beating the Bulls, IMO. Ho Grant sucked against Barkley. He had trouble making shots up close, on the fast break, etc. He was so chicken by the end of game 6 he passed to Paxson who hit the game winning 3 instead of going for the uncontested dunk.

Game 7 would have been in Phoenix.

EDIT: Grant was 0-5 from the field that game.

So you're saying if Jordan was replaced with, let's say, wilkens the bulls win 6 titles?

That would mean Wilkens would have Pippen and Pippen did a hell of a lot better without Jordan that Jordan did without Pippen.

Lmao dude Jordan was way past his prime when he played for Washington. Wtf guys?!?!

Well in 94\95 Jordan retired for the first time and in 95/96 Pippen should have been MVP leading the Bulls into the playoffs and into the 2nd round without MJ.

So Bill Russell > Michael Jordan then?

Some may argue yes. They would have a good argument. The dude was getting 20+ boards and many said 10+ blocks a game. Also, he smacked around wilt like a bitch in the finals. He was sooo into wilts head! That's a tall order.

Hmmmm sounds like you are a little young to not remember Jordan in the 80's. anyone that says Jordan couldn't win without Pippen is insane! You guys are too funny!

Players don't win titles. Teams do. You get a ring for playing your role on the team but Jordan himself hasn't won any championships.

Jordan was taller than Kobe, big enough to play SF. And it was 15 years earlier, so forwards were an inch shorter.

But the big difference was coaching. Jordan got the best fundamentals coach in Dean Smith. Then a former #1 pick guard his own height, Doug Collins, perfect for him. Then Jackson.

All Kobe ever got was Jackson. It's odd that Jackson says Kobe was worse when the reason was Jackson himself.

I know. I left him out. He was a Stotts.

Mags has a lot to learn about basketball, Clutch is imaginary nonsense for the most part.

Tangible is what matters. Defense, plus-minus, nuances of basketball can be measured now.

The 80's were still softer defensively, despite what all the pundits say on tv. Fast-paced up-and-down scorefests.

Sorry but there isn't a team today that would rival the physical play of Detroit, New York, or even the Pacers. You can't even touch the chosen ones in the NBA today.

Well, DUH!

Go Blazers

Edit: Not a shot at Nate, a response to the thread title.

The Pacers were good in the 80s?

Bullshit, today's NBA is softer than ever and in my opinion that's not really a good thing. Specially in the playoffs.

The most talented team in history could easily miss the playoffs every year if their coach sucked.

And we all know Jackson never won squat without 2-3 super-elite players.
