The Suns acquired dynamic shooting guard Jason Richardson today in a trade with the Charlotte Bobcats that will also bring second-year forward Jared Dudley and a 2010 second-round draft choice to the Suns in exchange for shooting guard Raja Bell, forward Boris Diaw and rookie point guard Sean Singletary.

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

Sounds like the Suns are realizing their window is closing and they better put someone around Amare, Shaq and Nash before the window is closed . . . personally I think they are in denial. :)

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

The article (written by an AZ newspaper) doesn't speculate why Charlotte makes this trade.
I have no idea, but before I rip on anyone, what does this buy Charlotte?

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

Let the wheeling and dealing begin. Phoenix has absolutely no depth, and they even have less now. They gave up their best perimeter defender, too.
Charlotte, who the hell knows what they're doing.

Looks like just a roster shake up, since what they're currently doing isn't working.

Gerald Wallace, and maybe Okafor will be the next to go.

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

This makes the Suns better.....

Diaw was crap, as was Bell.

They signed Juwan Howard, and now they trade their star for good role players? It's not like they have
too many stars already. Very curious.

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

The Suns make all this noise about being committed to defense, and then they trade one of their best defenders for JRich.

Nash, JRich, Amare, Shaq. One basketball. Wow.

The Bobcats... are they saving money? They sure are getting their teeth kicked in in terms of basketball ability, especially given that Dudley has been a pretty important player for them.

As the owner of both Gerald Wallace and DJ Augustin in my fantasy basketball league, I approve of this trade :)

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

I think Phoenix actually did this to get some depth, with guys that fit in their system.

Boris Diaw is a tweener that fit in a D'Antoni system, but doesn't fit in the Porter system. It doesn't help he got fat. He used to be an athletic, 6'8" type that could play both positions in a pinch. Now he is a fat, undersized, PF.

Raja Bell is on the downside of a bell curve. If you look at his production he peaked a few years ago when D'Antoni got there. His numbers over his career slowly rose, peaked, and now are on the skid. He is the type of player that would be a great, backup shooting guard. But not a starter.

Jason Richardson is solid, but not a star. His scoring averge was probably a little higher in Charlotte due to the fact he was asked to score more there, due to a lack of productive players. He is more like a 15 point player on a bad team. An upgrade for PHX IMO.

Jarred Dudley is a short, but strong and crafty PF. The dude can score. He fits within the half court offensive scheme. A good pickup for cheap IMO.

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

our chances of beating phoenix just increased, bell was tough on Roy.
JRich is out of the prime of his career.

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

If the Lakers dont beat them tonight with Raja, Boris, and Shaq missing Ill renounce my Lakers fandom and become a full fledged Blazers fan.

just kidding

Richardson is turning 28 next month. Arguably he's just ENTERING his prime, and there's no way he's altogether out of it.

Is that a threat or a promise??:lol::lol:

more likely felton is gonzo and (maybe) wallace. okafor has been playing really well lately and has a contract that would make it almost impossible to get equal value for him. i'd guess he's not going anywhere.

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

Do you guys hear that?

Thats the sound of us falling further out of playoff contention in the west.

With Jrich..suns are in. That leaves us or dallas. Which if you go by the last few games, im worried.

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

our chances increased on beating the suns lol? isnt jrich pretty deadly from 3?

yah...cause we are so good against guarding the three! we showed the magic!

Yea that's interesting to look at. Richardson has had some years where he scored more points per game than this year, but those years were on a Don Nelson, up tempo high game pace team that inflates statistical output. IMO, Richardson is having his best year this year, as he has been more consistent than he has in the past.

The only season he played under Don Nelson was 06-07 when he was injured for 30 games and averaged 16 ppg- his lowest average since his second season in the league. Every other season came under coaches who preach the slow paced, half court game (Mike Montgomery, Musselman, Winters, Sam Vincent, this year LB).

OH MY GOD dude are you serious? Man. [stop crying]

This trade makes no damn sense. And Dudley is a SF not a PF hasoos

no. in fact their giving up future flexibility because with option diaw runs a year longer than j-rich.

Hmmm... that's true, but JRich makes more in two seasons than Diaw does in three.

An odd, odd trade, in any case, for the Bobcats.

Re: OT: PHX/CHA trade

I haven't read all of the posts in this thread, but I live in Tempe and was listening to the local talker (620 AM, KTAR). They will have Kerr on shortly to discuss the trade. The word is Bell had become a cancer because he did not like TP's new system. They clear him, and Diaw's horrible contract for Richardson, who is owed Diaw money, but for only two years. The Suns say they will now sign a free agent vet PG.

They are also saying that the Suns do want to trade Amare if a good deal comes along if they can not get him signed to an extension. He can opt out after next season like LeBron, Wade, Bosh and the others. They still bring up Portland as a possible destination for Amare, but only because Portland has so much young talent and draft picks. They just really bag on Amare now because he does not defend or rebound. He wants to be the number one option, but only plays offense.

Dudley has started at the power forward spot for much of the year for the Bobcats.
