Let's take a look at what they've lost:
Jarrett Jack (to CLE) (29.7 mpg, 12.9 ppg)
Carl Landry (to SAC) (23.2 mpg, 10.8 ppg)
Brandon Rush (to UTA) (only 2 games last season due to injury)
Richard Jefferson (to UTA) (10.1 mpg, 3.1 ppg)
Andris Biedrins (to UTA) (9.3 mpg, 0.5 ppg)
2014 1st (to UTA)
2017 1st (to UTA)
2 2nd round picks (to UTA)
And what they've gained:
Andre Iguodala (from DEN)
So here's what they now have:
PG: Curry, (Nedovic), Jenkins
SG: (Iguodala), Thompson, (Nedovic), Bazemore
SF: (Iguodala) Barnes, Green,
PF: (Lee), Tyler, Thomas
C: (Lee), Bogut, Ezeli
I think their opinion is that Barnes is ready to take the next step. They don't play a traditional lineup, so they think of their players not as PG/SG/SF, but as wing players. With Iggy, they have a loaded wing rotation (Curry, Thompson, Iguodala, Barnes, Nedovic). Their frontcourt (again, they don't think PF/C) have Lee and Bogut.
Losing Landry hurt, but they can replace him with someone like Jermaine O'Neal. Also, Ezeli has proven serviceable. With Iggy, their defense is going to be much improved.
Bottom line, they have a ton of backcourt/wing depth from which they can make trades. Also I think they have some trade exceptions. Their frontcourt does need some help, because it depends on guys who have been injured and who are old (Lee/Bogut), but they should be able to find someone who can defend and rebound.
And if they get Aldridge, then they can tap that backcourt/wing depth and LA fills in the rest of the holes (other than rebounding).
They certainly are an interesting team to examine, however.

It will help that they should have Lee back healthy this year. But overall, yeah...I think they got worse. And Igoudala is only going to get worse and worse.

Their frontcourt depth sucks, but I think Iguodala helps them vastly more than JJ. He probably has more PG skills, way more defense, and his athleticism at 33 will probably be greater than JJ's now. The only place where Jack has a real edge is his outside shot.

Wait, I think I misunderstood you. Are you saying that once Andre's contract is up, his athleticism at 33 will be better than Jacks currently is (both being 29)?

Didn't Green also play really well last year? His minutes will also get decreased.
I think Iggy will adds some toughness, give them more depth at the wing, and fit in well with Curry. He gives them some veteran leadership on the floor. But I also think they made all those moves to get Howard (A big) and settled on paying for a position of much less need. I agree that they are not necessarily any better.

Everything went right for them last year.
Curry stayed healthy. Landry and Jack played great. They got a Denver team that was banged up in the first round. They had shots fall in the playoffs when the percentages historically say they wont.
I would not be surprised if they struggle.

Valid points, but I'm totally for the moves they've made so far. I think that team as it was constructed went about as far as it could go.
If memory serves most of this board had the W's penciled in as a non-playoff team this time last year...

I think Iguodala does wonders for your wing defense. He can cover 1, 2 or 3. He'll take a tremendous amount of pressure off of Curry. I really like the move. He won't blow you away with his stats, you'll just win more with him on the floor.

I hope so. The defense should certainly be improved next year but I am a bit worried that we lost two guys who can create offense for themselves and haven't replaced that. We're relying a lot on continued improvement from Curry, Barnes, and Klay.
On the other side of that coin I think this team could take it up a notch defensively into borderline elite status. W's were 4th in the league in opponent FG% last season which is hard to believe given that Bogut was out most of the year, Rush was out the whole year, Curry and Lee are major liabilities, and we were relying heavily on 3 rookies. Iggy is obviously a talented individual defender, but its really exciting to think about the playoff matchups that he and Klay can cover. Sort of reminds me of Green and Kawhi in SA. They give you a lot of flexibility. Also all indications are that if/when the W's sign a backup PG its going to be a 3rd string kind of guy. They think Iggy can facilitate sometimes but I think they also believe Kent Bazemore is ready for some burn, and he's another really talented, athletic defender who creates turnovers. A far cry from Jarrett Jack on defense.
Losing Mike Malone could hurt us a lot though...
