OT: Post your mock draft

Some people never see talent in drafts no matter how good the talent is. So many people on forums downplayed Lebron saying he was all hype and how they didn't see anything to get excited about... Same people every year.

In fairness to those people, there are people like me who probably overvalue drafts as well.

True but overvaluing is more fun to discuss than believing no better players will ever enter the NBA.

I think it's gonna be a good draft but probably not as good as people thought at the beginning of the year.
The most sure-thing is actually Exum IMO, Smart will also be good, I also like Embiid if he's healthy. Parker I didn't really get to see and I'm guessing Carmelo is a nice comparison but it's probably his ceiling (Carmelo won the NCAA title as a freshman) and he'll supposedly get picked around the same pick.
Some guys later in the draft (Aaron Gordon, Kyle Anderson, Shabazz Napier) I think could be steals. I Also like Saric from his scouting reports, statistics on Cibona Zagreb which is a very respectable European club.

Carmelo is the 11th leading scorer in NBA history. What a ceiling.

Well I personally think Wiggins, Parker, Embiid, Exum and Smart will have become stars at some point in their careers. Then you have guys like LaVine, Vonleh, Randle, Gordon, Saric, Anderson, Young, Hood, Ennis, Stauskas and Robinson who have a shit ton of potential.

I think Randle is going to be a stud.

Not sure what thread I saw the PapaG and Denny Crane back and forth on the draft. But here is another executive who is luke warm on it.

Larry Bird on the draft: "They talk about how great the draft is. I don’t necessarily buy that.”

Look at where Indiana is drafting though. It's absolutely in Larry's interest to publicly downplay the value in the draft because there may be some guy he thinks is worth moving up for or hoping falls into his lap. If he goes on the record saying it's loaded with studs then he sets his bargaining position at a disadvantage (even if the actual difference in bargaining power is minuscule).

That's true. Maybe he hopes to take someone like Roy and move up in the draft. I posted it because I think someone in that thread was looking for names of GM's who either thought it was a good draft or bad draft.

I guess my point is that "timing matters." At this time of year anything that comes out of a team executive's mouth is going to be suspect IMO. If a guy works for a team with a high draft selection, of course he's going to say it's the best draft he's ever seen, if they're drafting low (like Bird) then of course they are going to publicly downplay it.

The main thing is that anything said in the lead-up to the draft is almost certainly gamesmanship and shouldn't be taken at face value.

However, teams that began tanking in earnest in September or November were tipping their hand that they want a top choice. Philly dumped some pretty good players, for example.

1. Cavs - Wiggins
2. Bucks - Exum
3. 76ers - Parker
4. Magic - Embiid
5. Jazz - Saric
6. Celtics - Smart
7. Lakers - Randle

Jesus, Denny.

You're posting articles from last September. Delete these posts!!

His sources were written down unlike this common knowledge source you have been relying so much on.

Is that the same as wanting Portland to lose so you can post you were right about LMA's general suckage? I get confused.

There is a bit of a drop after 6/7 but I'd guess it'll be something close to this:

#1 Joel Embiid
#2 Jabari Parker
#3 Andrew Wiggins
#4 Dante Exum
#5 Noah Vonleh
#6 Marcus Smart
#7 Julius Randle

After this there is a bit of a drop off.

I would include Aaron Gordon in the top 7 and take Smart out. I think Gordon will end up being a stud by his 2nd season.
I think he will be better than Randle in the long run.
