OT: Rasheed Wallace To Retire

Sorry, and it sounds like Sheed is probably a good family guy and cares for his family. That still doesn't mean anything even if he is because he was a jerk from everything I have ever seen of him with his stay in Portland. The NBA is a much better place with Sheed retire IMO.
 
Funny thing about Sheed and his wife's doctor. After she gave birth to one of her kids, she made it known to Sheed that she was not happy about the baby weight and wanted a treadmill to help get rid of it, but Sheed didn't want to spend the money on it. When they were visiting the doctor Sheed's wife told him this and the doctor basically told Sheed to not be so cheap and spend like $1200 of his millions of dollars for his wife. I believe he did the next day.

I loved his talent when he had the mindset to take inside every time. Before he fell in love with the three point shot, there wasn't anyone on earth that could stop him from scoring. It's too bad that his personality got in the way of him being a super star.

I'm still thinking he'll come back when he starts hearing offers. It's too early for him to retire.
 
Just to clarify, this is an early report coming out of Detroit, reported by a local news station in Detroit. It hasn't been confirmed or refuted yet.
 
KGW just replayed Sheed's "both teams played hard" press conference clips, since it happened 6 years ago tonight apparently. No mention of him retiring at all.
 
Sheed isn't perfect, but I believe he just has a raging passion for the game that sometimes gets the best of him. I have the same thing, so I understand! Most of the time, Sheed seems to be a caring family man.

what if Doug Collins wasn't such an annoying douche bag? He could have been at the helm of the mighty Bulls during MJ's & PIP's prime and a champion many times over. But the players couldn't stand him and now I'm having to turn off the sound on my set when that cosmetic surgery freakshow is on. btw, loved ESPN clowning his call on Ben Gordon's 3 last night.

Wallace was never as good as Duncan. Though they came into the ACC together as freshman, Rasheed was 2 years older (19 vs 17). As a Wake fan I couldn't believe that the unheralded kid from the Virgin Islands was getting the best of the #1 HS recruit in the country, but it wasn't a fluke. He was taller, longer, and heavier. The unmentioned (thus far) physical trait that Wallace lacked is large hands. Dude can barely palm the ball let alone dwarf it like a grapefruit like Timmy or LA. Smallish hands (relative to his size) do not help post play.

Duncan also had the sort of focused & calm demeanor that I think best serves a competitor. While not ideal, Rasheed's hot temperament is what it is... but neither guy could adopt the others mentality. While some will side with the Jason Twits and Doug Collins of the world for their insights/opinions of what Wallace is like as a competitor/teammate, I think it's also important to note how much those who've actually coached him absolutely rave about him. Twit & Collins vs Dean Smith & Larry Brown :dunno: who to believe?

Anyhoo, I enjoyed most of what Sheed brought to the game and don't mind hearing he's a charitable good guy and family man off the court. I wish him the best as I would anyone, but here is guessing he'll be a Spur next season and we'll be having this same tired back and forth discussion a few more times.

I still can't believe so many people haven't got over their anger with Sheed, but give Brian Grant, Karl Malone, and Michael Jordan - all of who repeatedly cheated on their wives, a free pass.

Yeah, I'd still like to see something substantial about him retiring. He just seems like such a perfect fit in San Antonio. He's not as good as he used to be, but playing next to Timmy I could see each of them stretching out the other's career a little longer.

I'd love to see a playoff series with Aldridge on Sheed and Przybilla/Oden on Duncan, with Tony Parker and crew up against Roy and crew. Ginobili on Fernandez.

Man, that'd be fun to see.

In ten years, nobody will remember much about the guy other than he was a tech machine.

Sheed's turnaround midrange jumper was beautiful, unstoppable, and a very high percentage shot. It was money, even the first year he played for us.

I wonder if he retires if he'll move his family back to Portland? His wife LOVED it here. As such, Sheed was one of the only Blazers to make Portland his year-'round home when he was playing for us.
