OT - Raymond Felton arrested on gun charges

I just spoke to the wife of an NBA player who used to play for the Knicks. The woman is a gold-digger and did this to fuck with Felton and the divorce.

She also commented on how dangerous it is to live in NYC when you're an NBA player. It's why she and her husband lived in NJ when he played for the Knicks.

Felton's still an idiot, but his biggest mistake was marrying this woman.

That's what my gut was telling me the whole time, but I can't confirm it myself and it's just my feeling.

Felton and his wife don't have any kids. So, she isn't doing this to gain leverage in a custody battle. Unless Felton is a REAL idiot without a single competent financial adviser, I suspect there is also a prenup that protects his millions. Perhaps, just maybe, his wife is actually afraid for her safety. You think maybe that is a possibility? An angry spouse waving around a semi-automatic weapon loaded with 18 rounds of armour piercing bullets, including one in the chamber, would tend to make most sane people fear for their personal safety. Maybe, just maybe, survival, not leverage, was her motive.

Which is why the charge of abuse is so important. It entitles her to other damages, which gets her more cash.

But he hasn't been charged with any kind of abuse, just second degree felony possession - and those charges are brought by the DA's office, not Felton's wife. There is evidence, even beyond her testimony that Felton had an unregistered weapon in his possession. He purchased the gun in North Carolina, that's easy enough to prove without the wife's testimony. Others know he has the weapon. The state of New York knows it wasn't registered. At this point, even if Felton and his wife kiss and make up (not likely) the State of New York can proceed with their case against him.

Any word on a prenup? If Felton didn't require one, he's an even bigger idiot than I have previously given him credit for.

Ultimately, I think it will prove in the best interest of all parties that a plea bargain is reached that keeps Felton out of jail and earning the big bucks. He has a lot more to lose than his (alleged) gold digger wife.

At this point, I don't think anyone is disputing that he had the gun. He broke the law in New York. I just think it's pretty fucked up if she threw him under the bus to strengthen her position in any kind of legal battle.

Felton's gun would also be illegal in New Jersey. So, no help there for fatty moving across the river.

And I think it's pretty fucked up that he was waiving around a loaded weapon. And my position has just as much "proof" as yours.

Except you're stating your position as fact. "I think it's pretty fucked up that he was waiving around a loaded weapon."

I'm stating my position as a gut feeling and leaving it open to future information. I get it. You know people who were abused. So do I. My mother was in an extremely physically abusive marriage before she met my dad. She got out. It seems like you want to defend the women, but I take it the other way. I'm sickened by people who abuse the system to gain an upper hand. There's a reason why women get the benefit of the doubt. It's to protect women from abuse and rape, but some women abuse that trust from the justice system. They file false rape reports, they file false assault claims, and they put doubt in the minds of people when someone who was actually abused comes forward.

I'm not saying Felton's wife is lying. I don't know that for sure. I'm just saying her story sounds fishy to me. I don't like Felton. It's obvious he broke the law, but I think her motivations are questionable.

Well, in most of my posts, I've been prefacing my comments with "allegedly", or "if true", but I missed it that time. What I should have said, and meant to say, is:

"I think it's pretty fucked up if he was waiving around a loaded weapon."

Fair enough?

I would agree. If he was using the weapon as a way to intimidate his wife, that would be extremely fucked up.

Knicks try desperately to trade Felton by deadline and can't. Next thing you know Felton is being charged with crimes (after the trade deadline). Something is fishy here. Knicks paid ex-wife to set Felton up!

That was the joke in Bill Simmons' most recent mail bag.

Q: What are the Vegas odds that a Dolan crony planted the guns on Felton, then tipped off NYPD so the Knicks could get out of his $3.95M contract after they couldn’t trade him? Would you say it’s better than ‘Inside Job -145?’
—Michael, Seattle

SG: Are you kidding? The Knicks can’t even figure out how to use their amnesty! They’re going to suddenly be smart enough to frame a player to get him off the cap? I’d say the odds are 16-to-1.

Don't get me wrong, I could care less about Felton, I just think media anti gun rhetoric is annoying and I hate when gold diggers get a win.

I see you've latched onto the "semi-automatic" bit the media has been demonizing since sandy hook. News flash, just about every gun is semi auto besides specific 6 shooters, pump action shotguns, and bolt action rifles. It doesn't make it any more or less dangerous.

From ESPN's Daily Dime.

7. Quote Of The Night
"This is not a distraction to this team."

-- Knicks guard Raymond Felton, who is facing multiple gun-offense charges, on whether that would somehow be a problem

At least he knows his place.
