OT: Robin Lopez

I've watched him a few times this Pre-Season and I have been very impressed with his play.

He plays strong defense on the block. He rebounds well and blocks shots. His game will translate very well.

He's a clone of Joel Przybilla with a higher ceiling on the offensive end. Kind of a PJ Brown/Joel Przybilla hybrid.

Thinking of building a super strong bench for the next decade, Robin Lopez is the backup Center I would look at. He's Przybilla minus 9 years.

Saw Robin on that outdoor game, yeah, he seems like a great defensive player. Playing with Shaq is really gonna help him in practice....just getting that confidce. he gets a lot of blocks and thrives on unselfish play. he's a bit more mobile than Pryz.

Just pretend Robin is from North East Portland. Robin is super solid. When Steve Nash falls off that hill face first the Suns will go into rebuild mode. We have a lot of young pieces we could throw at them to spark a rebuild.

I say we pre-emptively pull the trigger to get Nash now, while he has a few years left in the tank at 25 mpg. He's a distributor and is a 3-pt superstar. His defense is worse than mine, but he brings more to the table than his D takes off it, I say.

And if all it took was Raef and Bayless? Or Outlaw, Diogu, Blake? Done and done.

Nash would be a stop gap. How many good years does he really have left? By the time Oden/Aldridge/Roy/Rudy/Batum emerge we'll be looking for another PG.

I keep saying 2-3 good years. He says 4. I cut that in half.

And I'm not convinced (though there is still a lot of time to prove me wrong...I agree we haven't seen anything yet) that Bayless is close to being our starting PG in 2 years or 4. If you said Conley instead of Nash, I'd be for that, too.

Lopez doesn't seem to have the length that Joel does. He's a hustle player but I doubt he'll ever evolve into the defensive presence that Przybilla is currently, and I just don't see many college big men with no offensive games develop them at the NBA level.

Brook's wingspan is almost 7'6", I'd say Robin's length is at least on par with Przybilla and probably longer.

Defense is what Robin is known for. Right now, it's really the only thing he can do well. His offensive game is rough and ugly, kinda like Joel's. I can easily see Robin develop into a Joel Przybilla calibur defender.

You don't block shots width-wise. And as I said, though, his length doesn't SEEM as good as Joel's. Joel is one of the best shot-blocking centers in the NBA, and the odds of Robin getting to that level given where he is now don't seem very high.

Defense is what Robin is known for. Right now, it's really the only thing he can do well. His offensive game is rough and ugly, kinda like Joel's. I can easily see Robin develop into a Joel Przybilla calibur defender.

I actually think he's known for his motor, which is not the same thing as his defense. It certainly HELPS defense, but it's not the same thing.

He's not a bad option to have as a back-up center, but my question is... would you rather have B.J. Mullens for around $1 mill or Robin Lopez for around $4 mill? I don't see why the Blazers didn't just hold onto Withey and look to get Mullens on the cheap.

I'd rather have Lopez. Granted I haven't watched Mullens play much but Lopez is actually fairly good on D while i'v never heard anyone talk about Mullens being a good defender.

Lopez is much better than Mullens at everything. He's definitely worth the money. Mullens is pretty much garbage still at this point, but has some potential left. He's like Meyers Leonard but 4 years older.
