Why do the Thunder want Rubio? What are they gonna do with Westbrook? It seems like they are setting themselves up for a point guard logjam, when they clearly need a shooting guard on that team. A shooting guard or a center. It just doesn't make sense.

BPA. Stupid to pass on that talent, for where they currently are.

Westbrook is 6'3". Rubio is 6'5". I think they could play together pretty well, actually, with Westbrook playing more aggressively offensively and Rubio more of a distributor role.

One interesting thing is that, for ESPN the Magazine, a member of each team picked a player for his team, and Westbrook picked James Harden. The magazine has this to say:

But don't get Westbrook started on sliding to the 2 so Oklahoma City can tap Spanish star Ricky Rubio. Says he: "You trippin'."

Haha. I think Rubio would be too good to pass up on, but I would say the same thing for the Grizzlies, too. I guess we'll wait and see.

they can let Rubio playout his contract in Europe if he wants I guess and get more experience, they're in no rush really.

the thunder will be stuck in neutral for a while if they pass on Harden..i really hope they dont land Harden, otherwise they could bring some noise in 2 years

You should always take the BPA. Rubio is #2 in this draft. Especially when your team isn't that good right now.

See, I thought of that, but I don't think it would work. Westbrook likes having the ball in his hands. He had a solid rookie season, so I'm somewhat surprised that they would be looking at another point guard.

Maybe we could work something out with OKC? Take Westbrook and Collison off their hands?

I think it's more likely that they're just talking up Rubio than that they'd move Westbrook because of Rubio.

I've read a few times that they want to play Westbrook at SG, and that's before the draft talk.

Best. Player. Available.

I hate it, too. OKC is stockpiling talent like crazy.

Yeah, but can either Rubio or Westbrook guard a shooting guard? Rubio may be 6'5, but can he defend Brandon Roy? Dwyane Wade? Kobe Bryant?

he didnt say shut down either.

I didn't say that he did. :)

I think Kobe/Roy/Wade can be defended... not shut down... but defended. I have my doubts that Rubio can defend those three, or any stereotypical shooting guard for that matter.

Would you, or would we possibly trade Rudy for Rubio?

Or Outlaw or?

It makes sense. He is better in a D-Wade attack the rim like crazy role than as a point-guard. How, otherwise, can we explain OKC enjoying Durant's big jump 2nd year, Green's improvement and Westbrooks nice rookie year contributing 2 more wins than they had last year?

No question I'd deal Rudy for Rubio.

I'm surprised that more people aren't looking at Rudy's success in the NBA last season as a possible model for Rubio's success.

I think it is a bad move by OKC personally.....

A starting backcourt, niether of whom is a threat from the perimeter....not a good recipe for success IMO....

I think Westbrook would be defending those guys, he was drafted primarily for his defensive potential and he's got the length to do it fairly well.

I agree. it would be short term. A year or two to see who is the better point. Then trade the other.

I realize that OKC is currently in our Division - however in time, there will be realignment in the NBA...and they won't be in our Division when that happens.

To this, I believe that OKC can be a trading partner:

here is my thinking: 3-team deal with New York

[I know that this would be complicated, with some of this not transpiring until after July 1st]

Outgoing:

Portland: Travis / Sergio / #24, #33 / Ruffin (trade exception) / Frye

New York: Lee / #8

OKC: #3 / Bad Contract

Incoming:

Portland: OKC #3 (RUBIO) Bad Contract

NY: Travis / Sergio / PDX #33 / Frye

OKC: Lee / NY #8 / PDX #24/ Ruffin (trade exception)
