SEATTLE -- Investor Chris Hansen has released preliminary design options for the exterior of a proposed NBA arena in Seattle.

The images were released on Friday. The city's design review board is expected to go over the preliminary plans on Dec. 11.

Three different designs for the exterior were revealed, including a preferred option consisting of a rectangular building with the look of a cruise ship on the top and a large public plaza. The design firm Hansen is using on the project, 360 Architecture, writes that the preferred option emphasizes the "front-door" toward downtown Seattle and maximizes the footprint of the arena site, but may lack an "iconic presence."

Another option features an extreme oval shape encased in a glass exterior that gives a 360-degree view of the area surrounding the arena. The last option is a rectangular building with a roof line that looks like flowing waves.

All three options feature large public gathering areas.

The arena project is still undergoing environmental reviews. No construction on the $490 million project, which is expected to include $290 million in private funding, will begin until an NBA franchise is secured.

It's going to be funny if they don't get a team to go in that new building.

It's a little odd with that square footprint.

It's like a combo of PSU's new rec center and the MC.

Anyway, it'd be great to have another team back in the PNW.

Hope they get a team! I miss the rivalry.

I hope they get an NBA team, but Portland gets an NHL team (if they ever come back).

Although that arena is trying too hard to be unique.

I wish they'd try harder... :sigh:

Oh well, I doubt seriously that I'll be living in Seattle again anytime soon, so semi-meh.

yeah Nate, learn to read, then learn how to write. Then learn how to type on a keyboard! And after you've that, figure out how to create an account on here and then, and ONLY then, post.

Worst thing that could happen to the Blazers would be if Seattle builds an arena that looks like a giant yacht. Paul Allen would move the team there in a heartbeat. :MARIS61:

I would love it if Portland got an NHL team and I'm kind of surprised that we don't already have one. They keep saying Portland will have a team someday. I think NHL would do great in Portland. I love the Ducks and they have a great rivalry with the Beavers, Not much into the Timbers although they are popular Portland really needs another pro team and I think we deserve to have one!

I'm really surprised at how popular the Lightning are here in Tampa. I would've thought that this was a lame-o sports town all around, with the Bucs getting blacked out and the Rays being the definition of "small market." But plenty of people are peeved about the lockout, and can't wait for hockey to be back.

Agreed. I think an NHL team would do good here, although the NHL has some tweaking they have to do (salaries, cost of tickets, etc).

It'd suck for the Winterhawks, but they could move to another city locally.
