Well, he crossed my path this morning. I took care of it.

How did i get dragged into this?

LOL i was wondering the same thing, but then i saw it was papaG and a target (or vice versa) and dismissed it. Anything is possible w/that guy and the arguments :-)

However, to the OP, this whole thing is f-up. Those public figures should be more cognizant of that shit

Using the term Chief in the way it was used has absolutely no connection to Native Americans whatsoever. It stems from communicating with superiors in a line of Work, such as BBert mentioned Police Chief, Fire Chief...etc... it is the respectful way of addressing a Chief in the line of work. It is also used sarcastically or as a replacement as for other terms such as Man and Dude.

Agreed. Also, we Black people call each other Chief, Boss, Cap'n, and even God sometimes. It's used in reference to someone you respect highly.

There should be no place in the NBA for making fun of someone with a physical deformity the same as there should be no place for racism. If Sterling deserves a life time ban for an illegally taped conversation being leaked then Shaq at least deserves a suspension for doing something similar on a publically accessible site like Instagram.

Double standard at its finest.

i call strangers chief sometimes, like "hey chief, let me get a shot of jack"

i also know a native american guy who hangs at the bar and shoots pool, he goes by the name chief, he introduced himself to me as chief. pretty good 8 ball player

also know another big native american guy who stage manages for pop acts, he goes by chief as well, because he kinda is

Shan is fine. Its not the right kind of ism to get him into real trouble.

Did you guys hear about that stuff with Donald Ster... SHAQ!

This I kind of agree with. Except the Sterling thing was above and beyond this. I do think there should be some ramifications for Shaq.

shaq has always done things to "get attention" good or bad it didn't matter to him.

I still remember when he was a Laker and had an interview after coming back from Miami with some reporter.
the reporter asked a question I don't remember I just remember his answer.

"I don't remember how many strip clubs I visited while in Miami".
(granted he was joking but still, turned my family off to the game of basketball for 10+years)

He's someone who wants attention.

Calling a person God seems a little blasphemous.

But we white people call each other chief, boss, and cap'n too.

Nice tie...

What exactly is Shaq's current relationship with the NBA? Is he a minority owner in some team?

This is why I'm not worried about the slippery slope argument. One could say that Sterling's ban from the NBA means actions like Shaq's should lead to banning from the NBA. But it won't because an actual person will be analyzing the situation. It's not like a computer program where they plug in the fact and then say this action = banning.

By the way, I'm not calling for Shaq to be banned, or for Sterling not to be banned. Sterling is getting exactly what he deserves. I just wanted to point out that Shaq has a history of making racially insensitive comments, as well as making very immature decisions on social media, including this latest Instagram stupidity. Yet, he is a part owner of an NBA team, and no one seems to care.

Shaq said on Twitter yesterday that he made a new friend when he called and apologized..then he put #alwayslearnin and some other one..

Lets see banned for life for making rascist comments that were illegally recorded during a private conversation. No punishment at all for publically mocking someone with a physical deformity. Talk about a bull shit double standard.

Less than 30% of the NBA teams have a black head coach, the Clippers do, not only do they have one of the few black coaches in the league they have the highest paid coach in the league. Certainly, does not seem like he was letting his bigotry get in the way of business. Suspend Shaq and Burke.

Someone should tell Donald Sterling all he has to do is call and apologize and he will be fine.

Ray Rice just beat the living shit out of his fiance. He's sorry though, so it's ok

Michael Vick murdered animals. He's sorry though

He works as an announcer for TNT, has press credentials and therefore should be prohibited from participating in NBA events, attending games etc. In addition to all that he is a minority owner with the Kings.
