How did i get dragged into this?
Using the term Chief in the way it was used has absolutely no connection to Native Americans whatsoever. It stems from communicating with superiors in a line of Work, such as BBert mentioned Police Chief, Fire Chief...etc... it is the respectful way of addressing a Chief in the line of work. It is also used sarcastically or as a replacement as for other terms such as Man and Dude.

There should be no place in the NBA for making fun of someone with a physical deformity the same as there should be no place for racism. If Sterling deserves a life time ban for an illegally taped conversation being leaked then Shaq at least deserves a suspension for doing something similar on a publically accessible site like Instagram.
Double standard at its finest.
Agreed. Also, we Black people call each other Chief, Boss, Cap'n, and even God sometimes. It's used in reference to someone you respect highly.
Nice tie...

What exactly is Shaq's current relationship with the NBA? Is he a minority owner in some team?
Yes, he's a minority owner of the group who purchased the Kings.

Good point. Kobe is very eloquent.
Shaq said on Twitter yesterday that he made a new friend when he called and apologized..then he put #alwayslearnin and some other one..

This is why I'm not worried about the slippery slope argument. One could say that Sterling's ban from the NBA means actions like Shaq's should lead to banning from the NBA. But it won't because an actual person will be analyzing the situation. It's not like a computer program where they plug in the fact and then say this action = banning.
