The Celtics have reached agreement with free agent forward/center Rasheed Wallace tonight on a contract that starts at the midlevel exemption of $5.8 million, according to a league source.

The contract is believed to be for two years.

Hmm, that could be interesting. You never know with Sheed. Funny to think Sheed and KG will be on the same team. What an association.

I find it interesting what teams were rumored to be interested in Sheed. The Spurs are perenial contenders, the Celts won the title in 08, and the Magic were finalists in 09. It would seem that outside of Portland, Sheed is still valued as a player.

Sheed's best days are far behind him, and his value is poor even as a bench player if he wants to float on the perimeter the entire game...

It's a better signing than Marbury for Boston, but I'm not sure he'll have any more of an impact...

smart move for both Sheed and the Celts, sad day for the Sheed sux crowd who was hoping for retirement rather then playing for a solid contender. The Celts get an upgrade over Big Baby and Powe (who is out next season with a knee injury) and Wallace gets to play a reduced role on a stacked club that plays the sort of team ball that he has always excelled at. He'll be 35 next year but is still bringing his diverse all around game. If he hadn't missed 20 games last year he would have easily enjoyed a 4th straight year of tallying over 100 3's and blocks... I may be wrong, but I recall hearing that Robert Horry is the only other player to have accomplished that feet and he only did it once.

I would that until Artis Gilmore gets there, then you can pull out the "odds of a HOF induction" off the table. If Artis can't make it, Rasheed won't.

I don't see Rodmans 5 titles helping him any..and he was an insanely good defender (better than Rasheed...2 time DPOY) and a massively better rebounder (lead the league in rebounding 7 straight years, including 2 years of 18, 1 year of 17 and 2 of 16. He had 7 years of rebounding more than 14 a game).

I think the "haters" and "lovers" (for lack of a better word) argument gets lost in the world of facts and stats.

With the way LBJ is improving in blocking shots I'd be surprised if he didn't do it in the next year or two. Andrea Bargnani was also only 3 blocks away from doing it this year.

It's been done more than just him and Horry, but Rasheed is probably the best do have combined those two skillsets. Rare, but not as uncommon as you suggest.

I appreciate you setting the record straight here, but did you miss the part where I said... "I may be wrong" and then attributed my understanding of this to something I'd heard?

anyhoo, since he's done it 3 times and it seems that no one else has done it more then once, Wallace seems to definitely (not probably) be the best at combining these two skillsets. That he's accomplished this after turning 30, while all three other guys did it earlier on in their careers, is also pretty impressive and speaks to what sort of player the Celts signed.

Every player is on a sliding scale of likelihood to make the HOF, from no chance in hell to virtual lock. Anything they do during their playing days (and sometimes after) moves them up or down the scale.

A bit more seriously: there's a difference between a mid-season acquisition after a guy gets waived by his team and a MLE-level free agent acquisition in the offseason.

I think he should be in the HOF, but I don't think him being on a 2nd team to win the title would be a deciding factor. There are a lot of factors that play a role, (see: Artis Gilmore) and I think Rasheed's reputation hurts him more than his stats help him.

Kind of like how he had the ability to be really really good doesn't play a role in this party.

What people tend to forget about Sheed, is that he is not a leader.

With Billups gone, the Pistons had no strong team leader. When the train jumped the tracks, Sheed just went along for the ride. That won't be an issue in Boston, with KG, Pierce, and even Rondo being strong, alpha male types.
