OT: Steve Nash to Lakers

I didn't say he was, but Kobe and Gasol are certainly declining.

LOL c'mon man? Seriously? Kobe declining is still a top 5-10 player in the game. With Nash along, it only preserves his career. Gasol with Nash makes our pick and roll offense pretty f'n scary as well. Gasol has an excellent mid range game and Nash should help that out a lot. Are they declining? yes. Are they declining to the point that we should be worried about it this upcoming season? No.

Not.

Swayed.

4 top 5 players at their positions is pretty fucking redic

I'd say the trade would make the Lakers the second-best team in the West, ahead of the Spurs, but still behind OKC. Nash is not as good as Westbrook at this point in their careers, and for that reason, I don't see this trade giving them a really good chance of winning the West next season.

I am disappointed that this will be the way Nash ends his career. Would've preferred to see him land almost anywhere else (Miami would've been just as bad...).

Comparing Nash to Westbrook, you're just doing it individually. Look at how everyone on Nash's team becomes a shooting star. Look at the pace. Those pluses greatly exceed the minuses, his deficiencies individually.

I hear Karl Malone and Gary Payton are going to sign with the Lakers also.

more supermodels for me.

Good comparison. 35 year old Gary Payton vs. 38 year old Steve Nash. Payton was also producing at a higher level coming into his contract with LA, yet for some reason, I feel better about Nash's odds competing with this current Lakers core.

(BTW - To the people in the first page of this thread talking about Nash's family... didn't Nash's wife birth Jason Richardson's baby? Was that all bullsh*t, or did he really stick with his wife after that?)

If you all had been born in Southern California, you'd all be Lakers fans right now.

Regardless of where I was born, I'm certain my parents would still have taught me the difference between right and wrong.

To cheer for an adulterous rapist who only escaped prison and the sex offenders registry because he's obscenely wealthy is wrong. In a way, Lakers fans are all guilty of being accessories after the fact to rape and witness intimidation.

C'mon, that is complete bullshit. I've never been partial to Kobe Bryant, and I hate when professional athletes get preferential treatment, but there's no way that Kobe raped that woman. Yeah, he cheated on his wife, but rape?

He's a good looking, very wealthy, and extremely famous professional athlete. If Kobe Bryant wanted to, he could have the hottest woman either of us know, and he'd have her ten times 'til Tuesday. Every aspect of that case just seemed like the crazy, unattractive woman who Kobe "raped" was just hoping for a broken condom and a fat baby check, but when that didn't happen, she sued for rape.

Now, Kobe's got to live the rest of the live with 99% of the world thinking he's a rapist. I hate the Lakers; I hate Kobe Bryant. However, the rape allegations just seemed fallacious.

I do wonder how Nash/Kobe/Gasol/Bynum would compare to these guys.

The Lakers needed a PG that could defend the quicker opposing Pg's . (See JJ Barea and Westbrook from the last two playoff ass kickings) and they went out and got Steve Nash. Interesting. I admit that should help Bynum actually touch the ball in the 4th qtr, but I don't see how this helps overcome their biggest weakness.

that was my first thought... how does this help them deal with Russell Westbrook?

STOMP

Nash is a perfect guard for the lakers. All that opposed getting him will see just how important a player with his talent and ability to make others better will be. Damn I wished we had a chance with him. Sucks that the lakers will get better. We could have given them out picks if that were the case. I just don't see how this works "cap wise" since the lakers are so far over cap to absorb his 10+ mil per.

What's missing here is, the lakers just got older (albeit, better) and traded away picks that would/could help them with youth.

I think it makes it harder to trade for Howard though, lack of picks they can trade.

Thanks for setting us back 20 years with your theory on why men Rape.

I wish I thought you were an isolated moron.

This is bound to work out AT LEAST as well as when Terry Porter was coaching the Suns.

Just read through this entire thread and all I can think of at the end is "Andre Miller only got 9 million for three years???" We should not have traded him. :tsktsk:

Indeed. And what's really annoying is that he does it right. He's Mr. no-bullshit, play the right way, don't say anything unless it's the truth, but don't seek glory and promote yourself. And look what it gets him.

Well, he IS a multi-millionaire. But you get my OVERALL point.

It got him 3 million the year he turns 40. Not bad for a PG. But yeah we should not have traded him.

They were has-beens when they went to the Lakers. Nash (and Andre Miller) are at the tops of their games and not declining.

First time I ever typed the plural of "top of his game" and it feels like I called them sons of bitches...or is it sons of a bitch.

BUMP, for the Truth.

Andre Miller would be perfect for Damian Lillard right about now, and this gap at experienced PG would be filled.

Pretty sure Gary and Karl had different moms, so sons of bitches is correct.

Good to know, and especially for this board, useful too.
------
Too bad teams couldn't have bid on Miller. He's so humble that he's quickly accepted being a substitute. Remember when Quick disliked him because he turned down Quick's tennis invitation? You can be humble without being a bright-eyed, bushy-tailed young player eager to kiss the local media's ass.

Edit: I think that should be plural, asses. What do you think, Barfo?

Hi folks, I'm here in LA and sportswriters are all but ejaculating in their pants. They are also convinced Lakers getting Dwight Howard. It's putrid.

I am from the area, Voodoo and i hate the Lakers. I'd bet if you weren't from LA you might not defend rapist Bryant, or maybe you figure rape is men's right regardless? At any rate, I can think of few more deserving to have 99% think he's a rapist (I only wish that were true) than Bryant.

Steve Nash has descended from my favorite non Blazer to my rock bottom shit list.

PS, on an unfamiliar computer so please excuse any typos.

If history has shown us anything, it's that the Lakers WILL get Howard and they WILL dominate the league because it has been prophesied by The Great Stern.
