Out here in Minnesota doin' some golf, but me and my Golf Channel boys of course are talkin' hoops. They asked a cool question............ Which cities that have more then 1 pro franchise are considered NBA cities. Meaning that the city follows or supports the NBA team more then the others. I could only think of Phoenix.

Football usually trumps basketball, so a place like Dallas would support the Cowboys more than the Mavs.

And in a place like Atlanta, the Braves get more attention than the Hawks.

The south is more about football and the east is more about baseball...

Boston maybe?

The Knicks?

Those are the only other two that could be maybe's

here's a hint who the hell wants to be a TRUE NBA city?? There's is only 1 and its in LA. NFL>NBA

Is that true about Atlanta? I'd say the Falcons are #1, Hawks could be #2, and I only say that because even when the Braves were dominating their division year after year, they couldn't even sell out their stadium for the playoffs. When the Hawks are good they seem to get a very solid turn out.

Eh, either way, it's the Falcons.

As for the question at hand, I agree with HCP, but it could change in Phoenix if the Cards stay good and the Suns continue to falter.

Los Angeles Lakers

Yep. The Celtics are definitely 3rd in Boston (Sox/Pats much more popular), and the Knicks are arguably the 4th/5th/6th most popular in NYC. Yanks, Giants, Jets, then the Knicks/Mets/Rangers slugging it out for 4th.

The Lakers are clearly the #1 team in LA, always have been even when the Rams (and Raiders) were there. USC football is probably #2 in LA at this point, right SoCal people?

Lakers over the Dodgers? Maybe right this moment, but not always

True. LA is all about the Lakers.

Unless the Clippers win the ring. Then a lot of fans will jump ship :devilwink: (not me)

What about Miami? My boy says I'm crazy, but he's from Florida and sleeps with his sister, so what does he know? New Orleans maybe?

How about Cleveland? The Cavs are the city's main chance for a Championship to end their awful drought.

Probably a toss up with USC and the "Manny" Dodger Fans

Recently the Cavaliers have been their most successful team, but I'd say Cleveland is more associated with the Indians nationally.

I would have gone Indians, Browns, Cavs all time. I suppose with LeBron it might be a little different, but if the good people of Cleveland could choose which franchise they would want to win a ring, I bet they go Indians first, then Browns, then Cavs. Maybe Browns first. It's close between the Indians and Browns, I'm guessing.

I think basketball can actually win out on the west coast because we don't have the same history with baseball and football... baseball is so ingrained on the east coast, and football is the bees knees in the south.

Toronto?

Houston?

Cleveland? No Way! Maybe the last 3 years, but that's it.

Toronto- HELL NO! That's the MapleLeaf's town.

Houston. I'd say maybe.

I'd say Cleveland is mostly associated with the Browns.

So I took the Cleveland angle of this discussion and asked a friend of mine who is originally from there and he said the Browns as well. I thought for sure it was the Indians because this current version of the Browns is not the original franchise, and the Indians have been in CLE forever.

He should have answered they are associated with heart break.

What about Miami?

Nope, the Dolphins have been there longer and are much more popular than the Heat.

New Orleans maybe?

Nope again, see above. Definitely the Saints town. The Hornets haven't been there nearly as long and they fled the town for OKC for two years after Hurricane Katrina. So, they've actually only played 5 seasons in New Orleans. The Saints have been there since 1967, and really only missed half a season of home games due to Hurrucan Katrina (they played four "home" games at the Alamodome in San Antonio and 4 at LSU's Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge). They have a waiting list of over 25,000 people for season tickets. The Hornets typically draw between 14,000 and 16,000 for home games (they drew more when they played in their temporary home in OKC). Not even close, NO is, and always will be, a Saints town.
