INCONSOLABLE..... That is little hammerette right now.... nothing is working.... nothing.... we've changed formula, gotten colic drops, try singing, talking, walking, etc., & NOTHING is getting her inconsolable crying/screaming to stop....

I need to go to bed so I can get up early @ 4am.... but what do we do?????

Every time she starts to fall asleep, she wakes herself up & restarts the cycle....

I am not kidding in that in the last 2 or 3 days, she's spent more time crying than sleeping....

Feeling lost & helpless...

...colic is a bitch...not much you can do, hammer...except ride it out.

Yeah Steve and maybe try NOT singing. j/k Yeah there's not really a whole lot you could do about colic. Like Ron said, you've just got to let it run its course. Hang in there pal.

Hammerette is high maintenance already? Dude.....

Steve does Hammerette sleep in her own baby bed???

Our last Son, during his 1st 6 months, had the works, colic, change from breast feeding to formula, The H-Flu (that one could of been fatal (encephalitis)...TEETHING, ......you name it...! Incl. Epilepsy Seizures at 3-4 years of age...on....

More-so, the ONE THING which worked more often than not, was to put Him in our King Sized Water Bed. You know all about Water Beds, simulating the womb, I'm sure. Even tho' I bought him his own water bed, once he was about 5, he still would sneak into our bed.....

some parents frown on the thought of such....tho' the way we felt, was He was Our Last, and by damned I was going to enjoy His baby years, regardless, if it meant he'd sleep in our bed, until he was 10....well most of the time, when we did put him in his own bed, he'd still sneak in the middle of the night or sooner, and cuddle in.

Our water bed, the feel of a baby's original home, plus the security & comfort of his parents, were just the thing to bring him to peace, regardless of the issue....yet, like I said, some Parents refuse to do as much....why not, besides, when he did have a couple of incidents in the night or early morn, having a seizure, it was only the right thing for us to do.....keep him near, make sure he was ok...!

No water bed to try that with... my bride is doing the next closest thing... getting her to finally pass out on her chest..... I just feel horrible seeing her in so much pain... ya know?

Steve I know by now everyone has bombarded you with ideas, allow me to add one more. When my daughter had colic we got in the car & just drove around for a while. For some reason kids always fall asleep in the car. After about 20 minutes she fell asleep in my wife's arms. We took her inside & put her back in her crib. She only slept for about 5 hours but DAMN! if felt so good. Just an idea.

The only thing that finally stopped my son's colic was feeding him some oatmeal cereal. Other than that it was mostly sleeping leaning against a wall holding him and passing him around to his 2 older sisters(thank god). He was my only kid that had this. The 3 girls somehow missed it. Check with your pediatrician as to when you can give him a little oatmeal and maybe that will do the trick for you like it finally did for me. Good luck. I feel your pain!!

Can't quite do that now as the kid has to be strapped into the car seat... and while she might fall asleep, taking her back out of the car seat would wake her...

She is the only one who has it so far... but how does oatmeal work regarding formula? She is only 3 weeks old today... is oatmeal cereal mixed in with formula too much? Won't it be too thick for the early stage nipples? We can check with our pediatrician, but it seems a bit early...

Hammer, forgot how young she is. Can't do it thru a bottle. Done by mixing in a bowl and probably too young for now but can give it much earlier than you are supposed to without problems. Eg, box says 4 or 6 mod u can give a little(not a ton) in say a month or 2 before the label. But let your dr guide you

I knew a little earlier, just didn't think it was ok yet. ;)

yep, I know what you mean.....hand in there you two, this too shall pass, but in the meantime, hang in there, sounds like your doing about everything you can do....

I too tried the drive trick, yes it did work, but....as you pointed out, once the car stops, & Hammerette is disturbed (by taking out of car), the pain begins again....

Best of Luck to you both....! Your on track IMO, your Pediatrician will come up with something....! Keep us informed what the Pedia' does for Her...!

not sure if this has been mentioned but have you tried swaddling? white noise?

She definitely needs noise... silence is bad news for her... so whether its TV, her brothers, us talking, the construction going on behind our house... she needs the noise... and it's really too damn hot in the house to swaddle right now...

Okay I'll bite, what the hell is swaddling?

you wrap them up tightly in a thin blanket to simulate the cramped conditions of the womb

and hammer, if you can remember the sound from the ultrasound, kind of a mix between the ocean and white noise, they sell cds of that and it works great to simulate the noises from the womb

good luck!

Would I be showing my age if I asked if this was something new?

not sure how new but they taught it to me at the hospital 9 years ago

For Hammerette, it doesn't matter what noise as long as it's noise...

So your saying "any noise disturbs her"? Not even soft very quiet gentle sounds bother her too unfortunately? I hope things are getting better for all 3 of you.

What did her pediatrician have to say....?

No, the opposite... quite disturbs her, she is comfortable with noise... she fell asleep as I was watching Metallica Through The Never...

Pediatrician thinks we are doing everything right and just need to push on

one thing we did was take turns staying up with her, so at least one of you gets some sleep

its tough though like you said man, beyond the sleep deprivation, just seeing your kid crying is so hard to take, at least it was for me... soldier on brother

That would normally be an option, but about a year and a half ago I totaled a car (flipped it) as I fell asleep at the wheel & I work about an hour away from home... My bride doesn't want it to happen again.... so unfortunately, it largely falls on her....

Oh man, did you come out with out injuries? I imagine the roads you drive to work, are heavily forested windy roads, with plenty of wet rain and/or black ice in winter...!

Drive safely my friend.....sleep deprivation and driving are volatile, but you already know that....! Stay safe Hammer....!

That accident was in May while I briefly had to commute to another state.... so no ice/black ice... just closed my eyes going on a curve on an off ramp... hit the car.... flipped it.... no injuries other than pride...
