OT: What a damn coward!

He did it and he felt bad enough about it to apologize in a public forum. Martin, meanwhile, continues to play the victim and isn't taking any responsibility for his own actions other than to pour gasoline on the fire.

He needs to focus on the Lakers, not the eccentric owner of an NBA team. He's a punk.

Again, I am not defending Martin or his actions. Cuban initiated this whole ugly sequence of events. As an adult, and someone in a position of authority, he should have known better.

Both parties are wrong. Neither one gets a free pass from me. They are both acting like spoiled children, not grown men.

And one of them apologized publicly, and one of them continues to hold a "thuggish" (my term) grudge. But whatever.

"Me and my mom ain't going to lose no sleep if we don't talk to Mark Cuban"

So he is or isn't going to lose sleep? :D

Did he initiate it?

Or did Martin, by acting like a punk/thug/whatever?

Or did Martin's mom, by raising him/allowing him to act like a punk/thug/whatever?

Obviously Cuban's made mistakes. At least he is willing to admit it. To call him a coward for not apologizing "enough" seems misguided relative to the actions of the other party.

Did he initiate it?

Yes, he did - initiate the confrontation with Martin's mother.

"According to Martin's agent, Brian Dyke, Cuban spotted Moore amid numerous Nuggets fans and said, unprovoked, "Your son is a punk." Regardless of what insult was stated, NBA spokesman Tim Frank said, "The situation on the floor postgame is being reviewed."

Or did Martin's mom, by raising him/allowing him to act like a punk/thug/whatever?

Oh please. This is nonsense. Yeah, it's Kenyon Martin's mother's fault that Cuban was pissed that his team lost the game and let his emotions get the better of his judgement. Martin wasn't even involved in the controversial play that had Cuban fuming.

"Cuban was visibly angry after Game 3 because he believed the officials missed numerous key calls down the stretch, notably the noncall on Denver's Carmelo Anthony, who avoided a potential foul and calmly hit the winning 3-pointer with one second left."

Perhaps Mark Cuban should call up Bennett Salvatore's mom and bitch her out because she didn't make her son eat his carrots as a kid.

Or maybe Cuban should call his own mom and bitch her out for raising a whiny little hothead who doesn't know how to properly control his temper in public when he doesn't get his way.

Obviously Cuban's made mistakes. At least he is willing to admit it. To call him a coward for not apologizing "enough" seems misguided relative to the actions of the other party.

The actions of the other party are irrelevant. They happened AFTER Cuban yelled at Martin's mom. Confronting Martin's mother, rather than Martin himself is the act I find cowardly. While I also find Martin's behavior unacceptable, it doesn't let Cuban off the hook. If Kenyon Martin yelled at Mark Cuban's mom "You're son is a pussy", I'd call his act cowardly as well.

An unimpeachable source, and really this is beside the point anyhow. One man who acted immature apologized; the other continues to act like a punk.

You are entitled to your opinion. You're just drawing an arbitrary line where, suddenly, Martin is not accountable for his actions.

If he deserved to be called a punk based on previous actions, presumably that would be a bad thing, but since you're saying that Cuban "started" this by saying something to his mom, Martin's actions are suddenly irrelevant.

I just don't think ANY of this is a big deal, and I don't think that Cuban is cowardly for a weak apology for a weak insult.

Cuban admitted it as well. Not sure why you think this is somehoiw debatable at this point.

So, you admit Cuban's actions, that started this whole war of words, were immature. Good, at least we agree on that.

And, for the umpteenth time, I don't condone Martin's actions either. Calling Cuban's actions rude, inappropriate and cowardly is not dependent on Martin's ensuing behavior. Both are/were wrong.

I've never excused Martin's behavior, before, during or after this incident. Calling out Cuban for his behavior does not let Martin off the hook in any way. Both have behaved badly.

Hell, I don't like Martin and I don't like the Nuggets. That doesn't mean I think it's OK for the owner of another team to yell insults at his mother - just like I think Ducks fans crossed a line when they yelled SLUT!!!! at Kevin Love's granny and little sister. When you start confronting your opponents family members, you've crossed a line. If you have a beef with a player, take it up with them, or at the very least their agent or coach. Leave the family out of it. It's uncalled for.

"The world got to see it before the person who it was meant for got to see it. That tells you how that goes. I ain't never known nobody apology to somebody through other people."

Kenyon... good grief

He admitted to doing so to the press and on his blog.

It seems to me that there must be some sort of history of animosity between Cuban and Punk Mama. If there isn't, Cuban's a bigger dickhead than even I thought.

Dear Abby,

Can we please agree that both of these guys behave like 4 year olds having to share a plastic tractor at the neighborhood sand box?

Also - can we please agree that it seems like they deserve each other?

You're a coward for calling Cuban a coward over this internet message board, as opposed to doing it to his face.

Actually sounds pretty nice that he invited them down to Dallas like that, and the dinner invitation, etc.

We can all mock Texas for having low life classless fans, and "showing their true colors", but then forget the class acts of fans in our own state, when UCLA played Oregon two years ago? How about fights that happen at the Rose Garden when the Lakers are in town? I've sat next to some pretty terrible Laker fans, but it always ends at shit talking. Not beating people up. The double standard thrown out here by some is a joke.

No Blazers fan has ever beaten up another team's fan at a Portland game, except in self-defense of course. :tsktsk:

They are both ignorant jerks. And both quite cowardly for not doing this face to face and leaving the rest of the world out of it.

Bottom line, no matter how you feel about someone, you don't ever take it to their mother.

Unless it's to ask for their hand in marriage.

Absolutely!

You mean, I have to ask her mother's permission? As well as Miss California's?:sigh:

Would this have been an issue to anyone if Cuban said that to Martin's father, not mother?

I don't get it. Why would you need permission from Miss California?

Because Miss California, like President Obama and the majority of voters in California, believe that marriage should be between a woman and a man.

And because Miss California is pretty smoking hot and she's caught flak about her answer in whatever pageant she's a part of, so it's easy to pile up on HER for the passage of Prop 8 last year.

That still doesn't explain why crandc would feel the need to get permission from Miss California to do anything.

She's trying to make a joke about needing permission from Miss California to get married to another woman since she is in California and Miss California is against gay marriage. It really had nothing to do with the conversation except for maybe Kenyon Martin's '***' thrown out to some Maverick fans.
