OT: ZBo and Marc destroy soft Laker frontcourt

Let's not make this Laker loss anything more than what it was. This was a classic trap game for the Lakers. They came off an emotional road win against Boston on Sunday and were flat last night against a talented, young team that plays tough at home. It happens all the time in the NBA.

dude with a lot of Blazer fans.. A Laker loss is as big as a playoff win for us. Its sad and embarrassing for me personally, as a Blazer fan. But this isnt the place where a Laker fan will be downplayed lol.

Fair enough.

Is the best Memphis could hope for. Memphis has never ever won a playoff GAME in their history.

First, unless Kobe is injured, the Grizz aren't beating the Lakers in a play-off series. It just ain't happening.

However, the fact the the Grizz have never won a play-off game is ancient history and irrelevant. When the Blazers won the championship in 1977 they had never even played a play-off game prior to that season and had never won more than 37 regular season games. None of the guys on the current Memphis roster played for the Grizz back when they got swept in the first round three straight years. In fact, back then their best player was a certain soft 7' tall Spaniard.

The current Grizz team has enough talent to win a game or two against any opponent, and to win a series if they get a high enough seed and a favorable match-up (NOT the Lakers).

yeah, wasnt trying to jump on you sorry lol. Just wanted to point out, that while I fully agree with your post... it will fall mostly on deaf ears in here lol.

I like you, Wheels

lol just tryin to keep it real. Make no mistake about it though.. this saturday from section 308... you guys are my enemies!!!

We played 8 road games in 13 days. When you're on the road that long, you're going to get flat. It had more to do with that than it did with the game being the end of a back to back.
this is true and is fair to point out but only if earlier in the season you would also have pointed out that the lakers had an inflated record due to their large percentage of home games.

I don't understand why people are surprised. Zach has always been a beast in the post. Marc Gasol has become a much better player than projected. Thabeet is rugged. Memphis is a whole lot of trouble down low. Just because historically they've been a shitty franchise doesn't mean they're not a damn good team right now.

How much better would Memphis have been if they selected Tyreke Evans?

Man thats a lot of backcourt scary players. Mayo, Conley, Gay, AND Evans. I'm glad it didnt happen lol.

The Lakers have a lot of home games early in the season and go on long road trips this time of year because of other events scheduled at the Staple Center ie the Grammys.

It all evens out at the end anyways. To be honest the Lakers haven't impressed me at all on the road this season. They're beating up on the weaker teams, but against the playoff caliber opponents they've struggled. Our bench has been night day for us on the road and cannot protect leads.

The L*kers and Clippers each have two extra home games because they share an arena. I don't want to hear any bitching about their schedule.

The L*kers have also won a lot of games they easily could have lost. Hopefully they peaked early in the season.

Haha.

Read this article from the WSJ.

The problem with this kind of study is it always comes down to how you define "loyal". A similar study study a little over a year ago rated the Knicks fans as the most "loyal". A year before that, it was the Warriors fans. One thing all of these "studies" have in common is they reward fans who are dumb enough, err... I mean loyal enough to pay good money to watch a bad team. I'm sure the Utah Jazz fans would have been ranked much higher if they weren't "penalized" for having only one losing season in the last 27 years.

I also wonder how many of those "loyal" Clipper fans actually go to the game because:

a) they can't get/afford Laker tickets
b) to watch, and maybe even cheer for, the other team

Not to mention all the home games to open the season bullshit. People say it doesn't mean much. But I beg to differ. Many times the way a team started the season, dictate how it played for the season, and giving them home gimme's is giving them a leg up there.

i know. my point was that early in the year people were talking about how awesome the lakers were because they had a significantly better record than any other team in the league when it was in large part due to the fact they'd played mostly home games. i think it's dumb for people to point out that they are losing games because of a long road trip unless they were also willing to acknowledge(at the time) that the early success was due to them not having to go on road trips.

I wouldn't guarantee that until Kobe's finger is better.

It wasn't his finger holding him back, it was the knee and ankle. He had no lift.

Let me guess, the NBA and the Grammy awards have a conspiracy together? So does the NBA and the San Antonio circus? That is all negated by the long road trips the teams go on.

Or, to remove the window dressing, they beat an aging team on its way down and then got thoroughly outplayed by a young team with more collective talent and better chemistry. :devilwink:

Love how you ignore the end of an 8 game road trip.

I'd love to see Memphis beat us again this year. It won't happen.

LMAO Memphis has our number? They beat us once, dude. And we won't be in trouble if we meet you in the playoffs. You guys won't be us @ STAPLES, which you'll have to. You need to worry about securing a playoff spot, first.

What does Memphis beating us have to do with playing @ the Rose Garden?.

Read the thread. It was stated that the Blazers beating the Lakers had no impact on the Lakers' season.
