OTish: Adam Silver says Milwaukee needs a new arena

The Blazers lease ends in 2025 so I would think around that time the team will look at leaving the city if they don't get a publicly funded arena. So 12 years, conveniently that will be shortly after the Moda name agreement expires. Chris McGowen hinted as much when announcing the new name, I forget his exact words but something along the lines of not knowing if it'll make sense to rename a 25+ year old arena. We have 12 years until the team is possibly moving but its been longer, 13 years, since this team won a playoff series.

The Bucks might be one of the only teams with less success than us the last few decades. Since 1989 they've gotten out of the first round ONCE which was in 2001; Glenn Rice, Ray Allen and Sam Cassell took them to the ECF with George Karl coaching. 9 other years they've had first round exits and 14 years they've missed the playoffs.

Since 1992 the Blazers have made it past the first round 2 times, missed the playoffs 7 times and been knocked out of the first round 12 times.

But over the last 13 years since 2000 they've missed the playoffs 7 times and been knocked out of the first round the other 6.

Well the Moda Center is still nicer than a lot of other arenas around the country. I don't think we will need a new arena for a very long time. Renovations? Now that's more realistic.

This is the first time when I think HCP is an authority on the subject, or does he even get out of the van when traveling?

The arena here in Indy is widely considered one of the best in the league. I'd think that Moda (ugh) is right up there with it in terms of sight lines, suites, and fan experience. The big screen could use an upgrade though. Indy has one that nearly extends from 3pt line to 3pt line. Shit's massive.

And the only other ones I've been to the are Philly and CLE and PDX's place is a lot better.

If the Blazers ever leave Portland, that will be the end of the NBA for me. I will not watch, care about, or give money to that sham of a league if they ever leave here.

Realistically, I have to say: "Same here." I grew up with the Blazers. I hate Stern's NBA. The Blazers have been an obsession most of my life. I'd stop watching the NBA entirely if the Blazers left town.

BTW, If I were a billionaire, I'd strongly consider buying the Bucks. Buy em and move em to Seattle, and easily double the investment in valuation of the franchise within a few years.

The Bucks arena is a DUMP! The RG stands up nice to other arenas. There are some bad ones out there that are newer than ours.

Yeah I think a big problem with Blazer games is the arena area, it’s really boring there. Too bad somehow the memorial coliseum got listed as historic, that place needs to be torn down. Blow up that grain elevator too. Build a 5 star hotel so we can host an all-star game. If there was some sort of entertainment and cheap parking with restaurants and bars it could be awesome.

Just like I've said in the past about watching other teams broadcasts and you'll realize the Mikes are really good.........you should all road trip it up a bit and see how bad other arenas are out there. Not just the buildings, but the areas around them. The RG is a palace compared to some out there.

The commons area of the RG needs renovation ASAP - It looks like LAX!

Good luck with that.. It's Portland. Corporations aren't welcome. The Rose Quarter will remain a ghost town.

That's why I'm also interested in what Kingspeed has to say.

I think they should power-wash the bricks in the area between the RG and the MC.

And add more windows to the RG too. It'd be better, and simpler, to renovate the RG than build a new one. Although a new one, especially if Uncle Paul foots a large portion of the bill again, wouldn't be a horrible thing.

That way, the city of Portland could have THREE arenas that can host NBA and Hockey!

The Blazers once had plans for the RQ redevelopment:

That looks really cool. With all of the NHL talk, does the NHL not care about the arena being that old, or are they not as hung up about it like the NBA is?
