Oden has already missed a whole year and just went down again, Batum is going to miss this whole season, Webster has already missed a whole season due to us mis-managing his injuries. Outlaw probably will miss the whole season and now Rudy is out for 6 weeks, that's what they say but could be longer. We are doing something wrong in how we are training our players, imo we need a better medical staff.

Bring back Mike Shimensky.

Who does he train for?

A team you guys pretty much "dislike" :D

All kidding aside, isn't there that one trainer or program that does wonders for people. I forget who it was and whatnot, but I remember reading an article about it.

God, I'm useless.

Tim Grover is good. The Suns' staff is fantastic.

My roomate in college (who worked with Vitti in the training room when the L*kers used to practice at Loyola Marymount) says he's a fucking prick.

Isn't Shiminsky in Sacramento or Utah now?

As long as the trainer keeps our players healthy, he can be Josef Mengele for all I care.

Never met him so I can't say, but I do know that when he puts on a glove, he looks like an ex-mafia "garbage man".

*In reference to Gary Vitti.

The Suns staff brought Amare Stoudemire back way too early from his MF. That decision played a part in destroying the Suns' championship window.

Which of the Blazer injuries have been preventable. If we're going to smear the training staff, I'd like some substance, not just some anecdotal evidence.

The only ones I can think of:

Blake - back too early from shoulder injury.
Webster - back too early from foot injury.
Batum - misdiagnosed shoulder injury during summer.

More business-oriented than those are letting Rudy and Nic play all summer. I don't blame the docs on that at all, though.

Thanks. Interesting that both Blake's and Webster's were from players returning too early. Of course, Blake still needed shoulder surgery after the season, so it's hard to put that on the training staff. Plus, of course, Blake doesn't get to use that as an excuse for his poor shooting so far this year, unlike other players on the roster returning from injury (Oden last year, Webster this year). I'm wondering if other teams are preventing players from getting injured. That seems to be the criticism of this staff, unless I'm reading things wrong.

Think about this.

Played this summer:

Rudy - injured now
Batum - injured now
Mills - injured now
Oden (Team USA camp/Bayno days at OSU) - injured now
Pendergraph - injured now
Cunningham - healthy
Bayless - healthy

Didn't play this summer

Roy - healthy
LMA - healthy
Blake - healthy
Miller - healthy
Outlaw - injured
Przy - healthy
Howard - healthy
Webster - healthy

Hmm...

Uh, good job only judging them based on that. Please, that did not destroy the title window. Kerr/Sarver did. Fact that Amare did come back from something that kills careers. But they did wonders with Nash's back, Grant Hill (who played 82 games last yr, 72 yr before - an accomplishment alone) and, Shaq (played 75 games after logging 59, 40, 2 yrs before). Shaq's almost already missed more games for Cleveland than he did last yr. Like he said, they're fantastic.

They do a lot of unorthodox methods, which I'm surprised other teams haven't caught on to yet.

I didn't judge them only on that. I pointed out a massive mistake that the Suns' staff made with Stoudemire. They aren't infallible, that was the only reason I posted it. I feel that mistake cost the Suns' a chance at a title.

How are they supposed to predict injuries? It's not like they have a crystal ball. [/Kevin Pritchard]

Still a dumb thing to point out after everything else they've done. And you're wrong, that did not cost them the window. Like I said, Kerr/Sarver did. It's clear as day.

Well, that's your opinion. I have mine. Deal with it in other ways than calling it "dumb", if you can.

One of the more concerning injuries for me was Webster's foot last year. The medical staff cleared him to go back out on the floor when clearly his body was not ready.

But Outlaw fits that as well, if his foot was hruting him, and he was cleared to play. Maybe his continued play didn't make a difference, but it certainly didn't help. Same with Batum's shoulder, continuing to play last season and this summer.

Is there a way to have looked for this problem with Rudy when the injury happened? Or is it something that can happen over time?

Did Outlaw say anything about his foot? Seems to me he said he landed and heard a "pop". That would mean the injury occured at that point.

I think so...as a matter of fact, you think so too.

That's too bad. He was playing well before feeling soreness in his foot.

The big decision comes on what do to with him this summer, although it may make it easier to trade him at the deadline, since hopefully the Blazers will have a player step up and prove that Outlaw isn't needed.

Also, Oden, chipped patella last season vs Golden State.
Medical staff/front office opted not to have surgery. (Probably because there would have been backlash to Oden being out Again)

I think this played a part in the big fellas injury, and why the hell wasn't he wearing knee braces/pads?

Batum's injury: flew all the way from europe to see the Blazers "specalists" who cleared him to play, and, what do you know?
Out for season. Good job!
