Guys that size are always horrible on defense.

How is he #2, right now Blake is number 1 and Bayless is number 2.

Unless Bayless has dramatically improved, he's in for a loooooooooooooooooooong season. He still hasn't proved he understands what a PG does. I do understand he is the heir apparent to the #2 spot with Sergio leaving and Mill's injury (not that he had proved anything yet), but if a true PG comes around who was a very good player in Europe, Bayless may have a short leash.

I don't think so. Bayless is going to get a fair chance this year or we would should have traded him. If they don't KP is really messed up. If they drive Bayless value down and not even give him a fair shot this year there is no way we shouldn't have traded him for Hinrich or someone else. I know there are at least a couple other teams that really like Bayless. I predict if Bayless is given a real fair amount of PT will be our starting PG by the middle of the season or at least the second half of the season.

There's a reason why Pooh Jeter wasn't a lottery pick. There's a reason why he's never sniffed NBA playing time. It's not even sure he'd make the roster let alone be the 2nd PG.

They're referring to 2nd PG in Summer League.... which is true.

Good for Jeter, hopefully he pans out and can make the roster. I'm always in favor of getting players who can produce, if he ends up falling into that category more power to him.

Neither had Ime Udoka but he's turned out to be a decent NBA player. Not great by any means but decent.

Gramps...

Seriously? Nothing in this quote even hints that Pooh Jeter has what it takes to be an NBA point guard:

"Hunger," Blazers summer league coach Joe Prunty said, when asked what Jeter has shown in practice so far. "He's a guy that was frustrated that he couldn't get out there on the court and play that first day. What I've seen is a guy who's not afraid. Not only is he hungry to get out there and show his stuff, he's not afraid to get out there and compete. He's trying to push Jerryd. He's trying to run the team. I've seen a lot of positives."
He's "trying." Prunty just described every single player who wishes he were good enough to play in the NBA. I wouldn't get too excited.

Yeah, he's been in Europe becoming one of the top 2 euro PG's.

Personally, I don't think he makes the roster unless Blake is traded.

Agreed... and if Blake is traded we might get a PG back, so that would bump him back off the roster in my thinking.

Pooh Jeter beating out Jerryd Bayless? That's a good one.

I think we're going to start the season with 3 PG's. At this point in time, it's Blake, Bayless and ? Mills is hurt and probably will not be effective for the season. Maybe Pooh will be that 3rd PG. And if so, I think it's a safe bet he can run a team better than Bayless. That said, Bayless does other things probably better than Pooh, but I think Nate wants a PG who can push the ball and run the pick & roll- something Bayless has yet to learn.

And that's why he had a crush on Steve Blake.

Nate suddenly wants a PG who will push the ball?

Are you actually trying to convince me of this given his history as an NBA coach?

Personally, I'm beginning to think that Steve Blake is staying and the #2 guard could be Raymond Felton.

I'm not convinced Bayless is ready to take over Sergio's role.

Felton is a less efficient but younger Andre Miller. Not sure Portland would like to take a flyer on him.

Andre Miller passes the ball much better than Felton... or, rather, is a much more willing passer. Maybe any given pass is better from Felton, but he doesn't do it as often. :)

Felton better not be a Blazer next year.

Ed, how many times last year did Nate implore his PG to push the ball? Did you watch any of the games at all? In timeouts, he'd be begging those guys to push the ball. In the newspaper we'd read how he wants the PG to push the ball. Don't try and tell me you were 100% oblivious to this.

Have you watched Nate's coaching career? That is the better question. 9 years all at or near the bottom in pace. He can say what he wants, but Nate does not want to push the ball.

A classic case of actions versus words.

Words - "Please push the ball up the floor. We need to increase the pace."

Actions - All of Nate's teams have played at a slow pace.

The only question I have is why Nate implores his team to do something he clearly doesn't actually want them to do?

Who cares. Bottom line- pushing the ball last season was a priority with Nate, as repeatedly reported and stated by Nate.

Let's give Nate the B.O.D. and say that he did want to push the ball---why doesn't he bench the guys who are totally blowing him off? I'm pretty sure if you give Sergio or Bayless the ball and tell them to push it up the floor, you'd have to call oxygen timeouts for Greg and Joel and LMA.

Our coach shouldn't have to beg and implore to have his wishes adhered to.
