Hacking Palin Maybe Not Such A Good Idea?

"Earlier it was just some prank to me, I really wanted to get something incriminating which I was sure there would be... well there WAS NOTHING, I read everything, every little blackberry confirmation... it finally set in... yes I was behind a proxy, only one, if this shit ever got to the FBI I was fucked..."

My only question is what kind of dumbass uses yahoo mail?

Previously disclosed emails indicate her administration embraced Yahoo accounts as an alternative to government email, which could possibly be released to the public under Alaska's Open Records Act.

"I'm for accountability in government. Hold me accountable for anything I can't hide or cover up." --Sarah Palin

Of course, this is like some bad comedy routine. In her attempt to end run around public oversight of her administration, she uses...Yahoo. And uses a "secret question" for security that she gave the answer to in her national speech.

So I surfed a little and it looks like this thing is for real . . . and I can't believe this person is running for VP under the platform of cleaning up congress.

How intelligent or sophisticated are you if you are using yahoo email as a governor (although I'm guessing McCain doesn't even know how to use email). And how slimy is it use yahoo email when congress was asking for all gov't emails and she doesn't include these emails from yahoo.

Hold her accountable indeed. That line might work when you are governor of a state of a population less than 1 million, but don't be saying taht when you are in the national spotlight.

McCain reportedly can't type because of some injury he had as a POW. I'm not buying this, because of the other things he is able to do with his fingers (and he could always stab, not everyone is going to be able to type at speeds of over 100 WPM like me!). He could do the two finger jabba jabba just fine imo.

Yea, he probably is capable of typing to some crappy extent, but I mean all his buddies at the senior's home probably didn't have emails either. :P

anyway though, I don't think Palin's secret question was all that bad. I mean mine probably would be found out if I had that kind of media attention. I guess as a person running with McCain you have to be more careful.

I would think as a governor being investiagted by your own congress and asking for all govt emails . . . you should be more careful and ethical about your private email account.

lol, I don't know all the details on that one. Sure, but I mean I bet if she never was McCain's runningmate, no one would have ever hacked into her yahoo email.

How does the mere possession of a yahoo email account become unethical? It's a personal email account. For personal use. Like, you know, sending emails to friends and family. Maybe she didn't want to send emails through her work email address to friends, family, fantasy football leagues... you know.... PERSONAL STUFF.

If she was doing work through her yahoo account, maybe that would be unethical, but I haven't seen anything leading me to believe that.

She did do business through it. Having a yahoo account is not unethical (although it is dumb, gmail >>> yahoo). But the fact that she did work related stuff through it is unethical, and I believe illegal.

Is it illegal or just shady? I hadn't heard anything about her doing work through it, but if she did I'm interested to hear if there's any actual laws in place against that kind of thing.

But yes, gmail > yahoo.

The issue is that her emails were subpoenaed, and people see her private account as a scam to hide unethical activity.

From the screenshots I've seen, most of the emails were "here's photos from the camping trip" and others that were clearly personal. That some of her contacts are also work contacts makes it a grey area and there were probably as few non-personal e-mails in there as well.

yeah, but there's been a serious witch hunt ever since Palin was announced as the VP candidate. I've never seen either party go after a VP this hard before. It blows me away. We're not voting for Palin, we're voting for McCain or Obama. I haven't heard anything about Bidin at all. It's like he's completely inconsequential to this whole thing.

They didn't go after the unknown and untested Obama and his chicago crony type corruption either.

Compare the "potential" wrongdoings (potential is all they're charging her with):

1) $1M in personal and campaign contribution benefits for Obama in deals with a convicted felon.
2) Trying to get a ex-brother-in-law fired

Well ya, but Obama is the Presidential candidate too. I've always thought of the VP as very much a window dressing (except in the case of Cheney). I mean, look at Dan Quail for pete's sake. You could have Beyonce as your VP and you'd be fine.

Should one of those two look far worse than the other? If anything, I'd say (2) is worse. $1 million is quite inconsequential in a campaign where they routinely raise $10 million in a week. It could definitely be shady, which is a bad thing, but it seems very penny-ante.

Abusing power to fire someone has more actual effect on someone's life.

Not that I think (2) is enormous. From what I can tell, it sounds like the trooper was in hot water from his own actions and Palin didn't use her power overtly, if allegations are true. But it's still dirty, which undermines her claims of being anti-corruption.

Dan Quayle fumbled his language and was the butt of numerous jokes, obviously. Nobody paid attention to the fact he actually did a fine job as VP. If he was as stupid as everyone thought, then the job can't be that hard.

The problem with troopergate, is she didn't fire the trooper, but fired the commissioner, affecting someone elses life over her personal grudge.

Almost $300K of those donations were for Obama's state senate campaign. Oops! Another $400K to purchase land next to a house Obama wanted but couldn't afford because the house and land were a package deal.

I still don't see what the big deal is over Obama buying a chunk of land LEGALLY from Rezko. My parents bought a chunk of land off our neighbors about 18 years ago. It's not a big deal at all.

Why and how did Rezko buy that land?

Ok, so I've been reading up on this whole troopergate bullshit. It sounds like a lot of circumstantial evidence. She fires Walt Monegan and then it sounds like he's trying to pin it all on this troopergate thing.

From http://www.adn.com/news/politics/story/510080.html

Monegan said he believes his firing was directly related to the fact Wooten stayed on the job. "It was a significant factor if not the factor," Monegan said.

He feels? Really? Of course he feels that way. He was fired and he wants to try to pan it off as a grudge.

Before she was governor, Palin pushed for a trooper investigation of Wooten over a number of matters, including using a Taser on his stepson, illegally shooting a moose, and accusations of driving drunk. At one point, Palin and her husband hired a private investigator.

Troopers did investigate, and Wooten was suspended for 10 days, later reduced to five. That took care of it, Monegan said. But the Palin administration and Todd Palin wouldn't let go, he said.

So the Troopers did an investigation, they found the claims to be accurate, and only suspended the guy for 5 days? Is this the kind of guy you want as a police officer? does he set a good example? Who cares if Palin was related to the guy, she wouldn't be doing her job if she didn't ask Monegan to do further investigation into the matter.

Monegan was fired. That's Palin's right as Governor. Was his handling of this matter part of the issue? Possibly. The LE community is very close. It's an old boys club. Go onto www.officer.com and look at the forums. It's an unwritten rule that "cops don't write cops." Some cops would even go as far as to let another officer off if they caught him driving under the influence. Does this sound like the kind of corruption Palin is talking about?

Palin knew of a bad egg in the State Troopers. She talked to the guy who was in charge of handling that kind of issue. He did nothing. I would have fired him too. It's not like her brother-in-law was an angel, a model citizen. He was obviously a bad cop. Monegan should have fired him without Palin's urging.

Monegan, however, said that Palin raised the subject of Wooten with him herself on two occasions after becoming governor -- once on the phone soon after she took office and once in person not long after that.

Monegan also said that the governor's husband, Todd, talked to him several times about Wooten and that three top officials in her administration contacted him.

But she never actually said, "I want you to fire this guy." She merely pointed to him that Wooten was a guy that needed to be investigated. I really don't see the problem.

Nate, the problem is that Wooten was already disciplined for those actions, and Palin kept pushing for him to be investigated again and fired, even though the commissioner couldn't do anything vecause the guy was already punished.

Nate the problem is the congress reviewed all this and called for an investigation. It sounds like you are convinced there is no problem, but I say let congress do there thing (it's like me taking some time to read about and concluding this is all bogus she wrongfully terminated Monegan . . . that is why you have an investiagtion). And this decision to investiage was before the VP thing.

But I can play this, I have read about these emails and looked at them. Congress asked for all gov't emails and Palin didn't turn over gov't emails from her yahoo account. She is hiding emails from the investigation. Sounds like a serious ethics problem to me. : )

So what are they looking for specifically with the investigation? Proof that Palin fired the commission because of Wooten?

I wonder if the unethical, ethical reformer thing has anything to do with her -7 net favorability.
