I call it the Menendez theory. If one kid shoots the parents, it may be just an evil kid and not bad parenting. But if one kid goes to the other kid and says, "you busy tonight bro. Cause I'm thinking we shoot both our parents in the head." And the other kid responds "I'm. Up for that, sounds like a hoot". Then I think we certainly have shitty parents who share the blame for their kids atrocities.

In this case two brothers both evil enough to bomb innocents at a marathon, I think the parents should receive blame. They should not be permitted to travel to America and they should not receive their kids body.

So it is the weighty decision of this board to punish parents of criminals. So be it, amen, or as NBA intellects say, it is what it is.

Now that that's settled, this board should decide whether American jurisprudence will henceforth hold the grandparents responsible for raising the parents who raised the criminal. A stressed nation awaits our judgment.

But do not forget the teachers. Those culprits should be hanged before we discuss the great-grandparents.

I agree that in this case the parents were probably somewhat to blame. From what I've read about them and seen from them they seem a little radical and absent as parents. At this point I don't think they are criminally to blame for their kids actions but probably had something to do with the formation of their kids initial belief and value system, however all that comes from very limited knowledge of their situation. A lot of factors go into a persons psyche including parenting, socialization, culture, drug use, education, etc. I also didn't put much into the parents initial reaction to their kids actions either, they seemed to react with a very normal denial and fear that any parent would react with given such dire news.

I would agree with Vanilla Gorilla that you should use caution in who you place blame on and how much blame and punishment you wish to dish out before the facts are known. Ive seen a lot of troubling mob like mentality and hate associated with this story, which is probably associated with their religion and the gruesome nature of their crime. Remember though, innocent until proven guilty. Along those lines a few things to consider is that sociopaths and psychopaths come from all walks of life with all types of parents, no matter how good the parent is. Also people with great parents are also brain washed into cults and crimes all the time. Also consider the Newton shooters mom and how much outrage she got, many people said she could and should have done better but no one was calling for her dead corpse to be hung from the rafters. Maybe its because she was already dead, or maybe its because she was white and christian.

I think maxiep was saying he felt he would have 'failed' as a parent if his kids carried out this terrorism. I agree with him. If my girls ever do something like this, I feel I would be a failure as a parent as well. That's not the same as blaming them, though...

How come no one blames Reagan for the death of rock and roll? That's when it happened.

The parents weren't absent parents. They brought the 4 children to the U.S., lived with them for 10 years, and then left suddenly 1 year ago when the mother was busted. The children were at least 18. The youngest, the one now in an old Army hospital, was 18 and entering 12th grade. The parents weren't absent until their kids were adults.

This is kind of how I feel. If you have one sociopathic, violent, nutcase of a kid and the rest are normal. Ok. I it can happen. But both of the sons are ok with bombing randos? I'm sure the older one was influential on the younger one, but, yeah, there's a trend here.

Something tells me that if they had "better" parents or family they wouldn't have ended up doing this.
