Paternity Leave is BS

They will hasten the collapse of society when the generation they should have created is forced to work to support them in their dotage. Kill non-breeders after age 40. This also helps with your population control angle. Win/win.
Kill everyone so they cant kill the planet and make it uninhabitable for people

If you run your business, what does paternity leave mean?

Don't confuse the S with the B on the cash flow quadrant.

Anybody ever seen No Country For Old Men....

Anton Chugr, as cold blood and ruthless a killer as ever portrayed in film..... looks in his rear view mirror and nervously guns his car into oncoming traffic.

.... only for little kids on bikes to catch up with him and get money for a bloody t-shirt.

That's a handy image.

"I'm afraid I'm over matched."

"You can't stop what's coming."

F'n A Tommy. F'n A.

The next generation..... and the next generation...... and so on.

When they are newborns, they really need round the clock care. They feed every 2-3 hours need to be changed burped all the time and they need a lot of physical contact. Of course, you ease away from that as they get older, but we're talking about leave to care for newborns.

I'm aware of this. My wife stopped working when our first was born so she could provide that care during the workday. She also provided in-home day care for other children whose parents weren't willing/able to do the same. I got up as often during the night as she did (only for 2-3 months though each time, because we had our kids sleeping through the night very early), and didn't take any paternity leave. But we also had dates without our newborn as early as 11 days after birth, because we decided early on that we weren't going to be the parents whose lives were wholly wrapped up in every minute of their children's. And when she did go back to work, she found a place where the kids could come in with her, so much like @dviss1, or kids have never been in day care either.

It's all about choices and priorities. We made choices to accommodate our priorities, and are happier because of it.

Some of you people are so full of shit. Other countries have been doing stuff like this for decades. Evolve your minds.

Asymmetrical balance. People who don't have kids get more free time by not having kids.

Except this is language revolving around giving monetary benefits to a certain class of society. If, for example men received paid time off for hunting, and women did not, you bet there would be an issue with that. Hell It doesnt even have to be man vs women, it just could be the fact that you go hunting, or insert whatever the fuck.

It's not about evolving minds. I actually like this. But I can see both sides to the issue unlike some.

I don't give a shit.

Give people who don't have kids the same amount of time off then. Its total bullshit that because you CHOSE to have kids you get additional paid time off. If they really wanted to raise their kids then go ahead, get no income for 12 weeks then and deal with it.

Or have an abortion if you can't handle it. Again, this is all voluntary to have kids and truth be told, having kids is a selfish act to recreate another copy of yourself. Its not a vehicle for the betterment of society, its so you're not so lonely and you want to have fun in your life and you can show them off.

Should not be rewarded with extra paid time off.

Well, if you don't give a shit, I'd say that just shows what a lame brain you are. You don't care about the bigger society implications, all you want to do is bitch that you're not getting time off. And I imagine you are choosing to not have kids, unless you are single or infertile. So what differences does that make?

And if people stop having kids, humanity will go extinct. But I suppose you don't give a shit about that either, you just want a couple of weeks off aye? Well then, why don't you chose to quit your job, and start looking for another one 12 weeks later?

The other side of the argument is simply being selfish. Not having a child sure it means you don't get leave. So the fuck what? If you choose to have one you'd get it too.

This debate reminds me of the smokers-break phenomena at various work places I've been to. LOL

Women get maternity leave. Men should get it too. Plain and simple.

I disagree, because people could be unable to have kids, yet see their co-worker reap a monetary benefit that they could never have. It's slightly discriminatory IMO.

Discriminatory... That's one way to look at it. Or you could think more positively and see it as more inclusive since women get maternity leave and men don't.

People would probably think that is too extravagant. You know, just like having diaper changing stations in men's bathrooms was considered too extravagant. OMG

Somewhere there's a picture of me in anti war rally with a bullhorn with my son on my front in a child carrier.

That is one way to look at it, and I did think about that, and also about other women who do not have kids can't take part. But generally in Oregon from what I understand, maternity leave isn't paid. It's just time off that you get w/o fear of losing your job.

Basically for me it all comes down to the "Free"-money part of it.

Somewhere there'a picture of me with greasy hair and a Noam Chomsky T-shirt arguing with a bunch of teens about libertarian socialism.

I still have greasy hair sometimes.....

Bigger society implications? More people in this world = more problems, human population is growing exponentially. We aren't going extinct, quite the opposite. We are growing at a pace that is unsustainable.

Not selfish, equitable. People with maternity leave essentially get a 10% non-performance bonus for every kid they pop out.

No one should get maternity leave. Having a child is a choice. Use your vacation time if you have it.

You are conflating 2 different issues. If a couple could have only 1 or 2 kids and thus not contribute to population growth. Someone has to have kids, the question is whether or not you want those kids to receive the highest quality care. You apparantly do not since you don't get an equal "vacation". And you want to talk about selfish??? Give me a break.

Having kids is one of the most selfish things a person can do. It's totally self-serving.

This argument would logically place blame on your parents for your very existence. Have you always felt this way?

didn't most of us outgrow this argument when we hit like 25?
